Design and operate scalable Azure, AWS, and GCP infrastructure, lead infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD initiatives, and provide senior technical operations support.
Requires at least five years of cloud engineering experience, deep Azure and Terraform expertise, scripting and containerization proficiency, and a bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
About the role The Sr. Cloud Engineer shares responsibility for the design, build, and operation of O3’s cloud infrastructure. This is a hands-on senior role for someone who brings ideas forward: you will propose how our environments should evolve, make the case for it, and build it alongside the team. O3 runs primarily on Microsoft Azure and has expanded into AWS and GCP. Day to day you will design and manage scalable, secure, and reliable cloud environments, take a leading hand in infrastructure-as-code and CI/CD, and serve as a senior escalation point for the team. What you'll do • Design, implement, and operate scalable, secure, and reliable cloud infrastructure supporting O3’s applications and services, primarily on Microsoft Azure, as well as AWS and GCP. • Contribute to the technical direction of O3’s cloud platform by bringing forward proposals for what should be built next along with the reasoning and trade-offs, and carry them through once agreed. • Build and maintain infrastructure-as-code (IaC) pipelines using Terraform or OpenTofu, contributing reusable modules that keep every environment version-controlled and reproducible. • Build and maintain continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines using Bitbucket Pipelines, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, or Jenkins to ensure rapid and reliable delivery within an Agile (Scrum) environment. • Administer and optimize Microsoft Entra ID, conditional access policies, and hybrid identity configurations. • Design and operate O3’s platform on Azure PaaS and managed services, including supporting Windows and Linux servers (patching, backup, and disaster recovery). • Own capacity planning and scaling for O3’s platform: autoscaling, load testing, multi-region design, and cost at scale. Evaluate container orchestration options (including Kubernetes), make recommendations, and lead the migration of existing workloads onto Kubernetes if needed. • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting solutions (PagerDuty, Azure Monitor, Prometheus/Grafana, SIEM) to ensure system reliability, performance, and scalability. Continuously optimize infrastructure for cost and performance. • Ensure all cloud infrastructure adheres to security best practices and O3’s compliance obligations, including SOC 2, ISO 27001, ISO 27701, GDPR, and other relevant frameworks. • Design and enforce zero-trust architecture, network segmentation, MFA, and least-privilege access controls. • Work closely with development, operations, security, and product teams to align cloud infrastructure with O3’s strategic goals and project requirements. • Partner with the Cloud Security Engineer so that security review is built into IaC and CI/CD rather than bolted on after deployment. • Serve as a senior escalation point for the team, resolving complex networking, systems, and application issues. • Automate repetitive operational tasks through scripting (PowerShell, Python, Go, or C#) to reduce toil and improve reliability. • Maintain comprehensive technical documentation for all infrastructure, runbooks, and standard operating procedures, including the reasoning behind architectural decisions. • Participate in incident response, root cause analysis, and post-incident reviews. • Mentor engineers and developers on effective CI/CD and IaC principles and participate actively in design review. • Participate in the on-call rotation and deployments to ensure O3’s services remain available for customers. • Additional duties as necessary to support O3’s initiatives and goals. Qualifications • Minimum of 5 years of experience in cloud engineering or a related field, including experience contributing to architectural decisions, not only implementing them. Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Systems Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience. • Deep hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, with an emphasis on PaaS and managed services alongside IaaS fundamentals such as virtual networks and load balancers, and working knowledge of AWS or GCP. • Expert command of infrastructure-as-code tools, specifically Terraform or OpenTofu, with experience designing reusable modules. • Strong experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., Bitbucket Pipelines, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps) for infrastructure and service delivery. • Hands-on experience scaling production cloud workloads: autoscaling, load testing, capacity planning, and fixing performance bottlenecks under real growth. • Working knowledge of containerization and Kubernetes, with the ability to migrate existing workloads onto it if needed. • Strong grasp of platform fundamentals: identity and access management in Microsoft Entra ID, DNS, certificate services, VPNs, firewalls, load balancers, and network security. • Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language: Python, PowerShell, Go, or .NET/C#. . Proven ability to identify what needs to be built, make the case for it clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, and see it through from concept to completion with minimal guidance.
