Full Description

Description Summary: Designs welding fixtures as a primary task and programs/sets up laser welding and robotic welding equipment used to produce fabricated metal component parts and assemblies. Position requires knowledge of welding theory, procedures, and fixturing methods to optimize productivity and efficiency of robotic welding machines and cells. This role is focused on design, setups, initial programming/teaching, pilot runs, and onboarding of new robotic welding equipment/cells rather than ongoing production. Job Functions: Report directly to the Manufacturing Engineering Manager, who will provide primary task assignments. Support coordination between Manufacturing Engineering and Production; tasks may be reassigned based on production needs, but direction will always flow through the Manufacturing Engineering Manager. Work alongside Production Managers and Supervisors as needed, assisting in problem solving on the production floor while keeping the Manufacturing Engineering Manager informed of all pertinent issues. Maintain a dotted-line relationship with Production leadership to ensure alignment with shop-floor priorities. Collaborate with Operations and Engineering to review applications for robotic and laser welding and revise weldment designs for improved robotic welding applications. Analyze prints, instructions, or samples to determine sequence of operations, setups, and fixture requirements. Design welding fixtures using SolidWorks/CAD and, in the current state, fabricate/machine fixture components as required. Program, teach, and set up robots for pilot runs, verifying machine accuracy and part conformance. Troubleshoot programming, fixturing, and setup issues to ensure quality and efficiency. As departmental workload increases, delegate routine changeover and touch-up activities to production leads, while maintaining responsibility for preparing and teaching others to execute the work effectively Develop and maintain procedures, work instructions, and training for robotic and laser welding processes. Support onboarding of new robotic welding equipment/cells and train operators on production, quality, and safety practices. Maintain accurate records of work performed. Communicates with co-workers and supervisor to receive instructions and coordinate job activities. Follows all safety procedures and wears safety equipment or apparel as required. Performs all job functions to meet acceptable quality and performance standards. Ensures on a daily basis that the work area is clean and orderly including machine, tooling and workstation. May be required to follow other job-related instructions and duties as requested, subject to applicable state and federal laws. Requirements Minimum of 5 years of robotic welding education or work experience with robotic laser welding Ability to read prints including welding symbols Working knowledge with CAD/CAM software Strong shop mathematics Organized and good communicator Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with sheet metal fabrication processes Bilingual (English/Spanish) Physical Requirement: Exert 25 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently Frequently required to sit; stand; walk; reach with hands and arms Ability to communicate with others and accommodation as required to listen to equipment Accommodation as required for reading documents, prints, computer screens and quality instruments Working Conditions: Typical metal manufacturing environment with exposure to powder coat paint facility.
