Head of Software Engineering — Detroit Location: Detroit, MI (On-site, 5 days per week) Job Type: Full-time, equity role Visa: US citizens only About Nox Metals Nox Metals is building the fastest metals processing factories in America, powered by software and automation—not manual labor and paperwork. We're expanding our operations to Detroit with a brand new multi-material facility and we’re searching for a Head of Software Engineering to lead the technical team and shape the systems that will run it. The Role As the Head of Software Engineering at the Detroit facility, you will architect, oversee, and build the production software driving quoting, scheduling, procurement, and machine operations. You will lead the technical vision while staying close to the factory floor, working hands-on with machine operators and understanding the intersection of software and manufacturing operations. What you build in Detroit becomes the foundation for scaling to future Nox Metals facilities across the country. This is not a pure management role. You will code, problem solve on the floor, talk to operators and customers, and ship solutions. You own what you build and drive the vision for how technology powers a modern metals factory. What You'll Do • Lead, architect, and build systems for quoting, scheduling, procurement, and machine operations • Deploy software directly into a live factory and see your code have immediate physical impact • Hire, mentor, and develop a high-performing engineering team as we scale • Design both internal tools for factory automation and customer-facing web portals • Work daily on-site with machine operators and staff to identify pain points and ship solutions • Establish the technical foundation to scale across multiple Nox Metals locations • Own the full stack and development lifecycle for core operational software What We're Looking For • Senior-level, full-stack engineering skills • Proven experience leading technical teams and architecting scalable systems • Comfort working in ambiguity and building greenfield solutions • Passion for marrying software with physical operations in manufacturing or logistics • Relentless focus on solving real problems and shipping fast • Ability to hire, mentor, and inspire a technical team • Deep sense of ownership: you want your code running factories and moving metal, not just pixels • You don’t wait for a spec, you go find the problem and build what needs to exist Why This Role • Founding technical leader at a new Detroit facility • Equity role: you own what you build • Direct founder access • Your systems become the operating system for American metals processing • Opportunity to shape technology in a critical American industry Ready to help reimagine American manufacturing?
