Ready to join our quest for better?Job DescriptionThe Organ Procurement Specialist reflects the mission, vision, and values of NM, adheres to the organization’s Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance Program, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards.Responsibilities:Provides continuous on-call coverage for the transplant center for organ procurement.Receives and records potential donor organ information from the OPS.Contacts attending physicians and accurately communicates pertinent information.Contacts the Transplant Nurse Coordinator(TNC) on call to contact the potential recipient.Contacts the OR Control desk, surgeons, fellows and other staff to coordinate the recipient OR logistics.Mobilizes the procurement team.Secures appropriate transportation for the procurement team.Coordinates all aspects of the donor operation, which may include perfusion of the deceased donor organs being harvested.Coordinates and communicates will all members of the team to ensure a smooth recipient operation.Reviews bills from OPOs, UNOS, and medical transplant team for accuracy.Coordinates the schedules of the OPS at CMH to ensure 24-hour coverage, seven days a week.Attends weekly transplant meetings for the various organ transplant services at least twice a month.Works with all organ TNCs to ensure adequate knowledge of recipients at the top of the waiting list.Ensures that the necessary supplies are available at all times for procurement.Other duties as assigned.Coordinates educational services with the clinical staff regarding organ procurement policy and procedures.Assists with development and review of policies and procedures related to compliance with OPTN and UNOS regulations.AA/EOELI-AD1NMH1QualificationsRequired: Bachelor's degree, preferably in a biological sciences field, or equivalent experience in organ transplantation.One year of surgical experiencePreferred: Previous transplant procurement experienceCertification as Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator (CPTC).Additional InformationNorthwestern Medicine is an equal opportunity employer (disability, VETS) and does not discriminate in hiring or employment on the basis of age, sex, race, color, religion, national origin, gender identity, veteran status, disability, sexual orientation or any other protected status.Background CheckNorthwestern Medicine conducts a background check that includes criminal history on newly hired team members and, at times, internal transfers.
