Description The Assistant Summer Program Coordinator reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine® GCM Grosvenor Scholars Program (hereafter referred to as NM Scholars), a partnership between Northwestern Medicine®, George Westinghouse College Prep High School, Daniel Hale Williams Prep and Bronzeville Scholastic Institute. For more information about the program, please visit Northwestern Medicine High School Programs | Northwestern Medicine NM Scholars offers a Summer Intensive Program led by two Summer Program Coordinators who are largely responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the Scholars. The program will be offered in person this summer at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Assistant Program Coordinators work closely with the Program Coordinators, Summer Intensive Chair, Northwestern Memorial Healthcare System Advisor, NM Academy Director, Program Manager, Community Support Specialist, and Research/Evaluation Advisor. The Assistant Program Coordinators will work as part of a team as well as demonstrate superior organization skills, strong interpersonal and communication skills, and attention to detail and be highly flexible and adaptable. (Please see “Other” section to learn more about the Summer Intensive Program). Tenure of position: 8 weeks, beginning the beginning of June (these dates are flexible)– the position is 100% in person. Description Assist with the Summer Intensive curriculum design and implementation that include designing, coordinating, and facilitating the summer program. Work with the NM Scholars team to plan and execute activities such as potential college visits. Maintain daily reflections (e.g., memos) on students’ improvement in the Summer Intensive Program by attending all lectures and presentations with students. Design lesson plans on writing techniques for high school students and met with them regularly to work on their summer research projects and (oral and poster) presentations. Support and reinforce students’ strengths and experiential knowledge. Promote a college culture environment that is similar to current remote learning Serve as the point of contact for one cohort of students (e.g., rising sophomores), and provide guidance, advice, and mentorship to enhance their experiences in the program. Assist in handling day-to-day responsibilities for students. Assist with developing and grading homework, projects, and exams, as well as assess participation and attendance. Escort students to and from breakfast, lunch, lecture, and lab locations and ensure that the students adhere to the set schedule. Assist with research activities, including conducting student interviews and collecting student data. Provide ongoing feedback to better implement the program. Attend regular meetings with the NM Scholars Team to touch base throughout the duration of the Summer Intensive Program. Participate in NM Scholars Program Orientation to ensure proper planning and transition. Qualifications Required: • Student enrolled in a certificate program or undergraduate student with experience and/or interest in education, teaching, leadership, high school student development, or college student development. • Be able to work virtually and in-person. • Past experience working with high achieving high school students. • Strong Microsoft Office skills. • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. • Must be able to follow directions independently. • Must be able to communicate with a variety of internal and external sources directly and professionally. • Must be able to participate and collaborate as a team player, working in a time-pressured environment. • Be a well-rounded individual who enjoys guiding, advising, and mentoring youth from under-sourced communities. Desired qualifications: • Background in program coordination. • Experience with curriculum design and development in and/or outside of traditional classroom environments. • Past STEM or health/science pipeline experience. • Knowledge or understanding of underrepresented student experiences in K-16th and beyond, college access and readiness, as well as equity and diversity. • Experience with writing development and process at the secondary and/or post-secondary level. • Outgoing personality.
