Tax Manager - Construction - Charlotte, NC Who: A tax professional with 5+ years of recent public accounting experience and strong expertise in entity-level taxation. Position Overview: The Tax Manager leads and manages multiple tax engagements, overseeing technical tax reviews, supervising team members, and supporting client relationships. This role includes researching complex tax issues, managing workflows, mentoring staff, and contributing to business development efforts. The Tax Manager plays an essential role in engagement economics, quality control, and staff development. Key Responsibilities: - Develop a deep understanding of each customer’s business and communicate engagement economics clearly. - Provide frequent updates to customers regarding engagement progress, issues, and resolutions. - Continuously expand technical knowledge and train the team on updated tax practices. - Monitor billable hour budgets and review variances with the team. - Perform technical reviews of multiple tax returns with varying degrees of complexity. - Research complex tax issues and propose innovative solutions with input from stakeholders. - Create developmental plans for team members and track progress. - Delegate and manage tax and research assignments to ensure accurate and efficient work. - Lead, motivate, coach, and support the tax team. - Support business development through networking, community involvement, and professional events. - Build and sustain strong customer relationships from start to finish. - Participate in recruiting efforts and celebrate team and individual accomplishments. - Provide timely performance feedback and contribute to promotion readiness assessments. - Travel up to 15% may be required. Qualifications: - Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; Master’s in Tax preferred. - 5+ years of recent accounting firm experience managing complex tax projects and workflows. - Broad experience with entity-level taxation. - CPA certification required. - Strong multitasking and organizational abilities. - Excellent communication skills. - Experience with tax software and technology tools.
