Employment Begins: 2025-2026 School Year 8.0 hours/day; 5 days/week; 260 days/year SURPLUS INVENTORY AND REPAIR TECHNICIAN STANDARD POSITION DESCRIPTION Classification: Custodian Location: Service Center Reports to: Director of Facilities FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Bargaining Unit: Custodians This is a standard position description to be used for positions with similar duties, responsibilities, classification and compensation. Employees assigned to the position description may or may not perform all of the essential functions indicated in this position description. This job description does not constitute an employment agreement between the employer and employee and is subject to change by the employer as the needs of the employer and requirements of the job change. Part I: Position Summary: The position is responsible for the accurate accounting of inventory including receiving, processing, recording and distributing supplies and materials; performs a variety of clerical duties including data entry and maintenance of files and records. The District represents a diverse community with a population of more than 50% of students with diverse backgrounds. We seek an individual who has successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities. The selected candidate must demonstrate a commitment to strengthening community engagement and communication with the District’s diverse populations. Part II: Supervision and Controls over the Work: Work is performed under the direction of the Director of Facilities and Capital Projects Supervisor who schedules and assigns work and sets operating priorities and provides direction in difficult or unusual situations. Once assignment and direction is received, employee performs the tasks with relative independence. Part III: Major Duties and Responsibilities (depending on specific assignment, duties and responsibilities listed may include, but are not limited to the following): • Keep track of status of ordered equipment and supplies. Contact vendors when expected items are overdue. • Coordinate the delivery of dedicated project equipment to NTPS sites as needed. • Maintain and prepare detailed records and files using appropriate software. • Ensure proper completion of a variety of inventory forms. • Interface with custodians to monitor location of distributed controlled assets as directed. • Receive and log-in surplus property and materials. • Notify appropriate parties when parts need to be ordered and when equipment is received and dispatched. • Perform annual physical inventory of equipment and parts as assigned. • Perform custodial work as needed. Duties include, but are not limited to the following: • Assist in the maintenance of the asset management database system. • Check shipments for soundness, condition, shortage or discrepancies. • Receive, accept and unpack incoming materials and supplies and bar-code capital and controlled items. • Issue furniture materials, supplies, parts and equipment per established processes and procedures. • Package materials for shipping, delivery or return and keep appropriate records. • Pick up and deliver supplies and equipment. • Maintain and repair custodial issue equipment and specialized tools. • Recommend survey of obsolete/non-repairable equipment per established processes and procedures. • Evaluate equipment being surveyed from schools and departments to determine its condition and sort items appropriately. Technician Responsibilities: • Oversees and records deliveries and pickups to insure quality and quantity of products. • Check standing inventory regularly and initiates or recommends initiation of reorder. • Loads, unloads, and moves materials and supplies using safety equipment, hand trucks, and front-end loaders/forklifts. • Maintains inventory records and tracking system. • Documents inventory losses through demurrage, damage, etc. • Determines appropriate places for storage assuring that stocking and stacking conforms to safety procedures and product protection requirements. • Rotates stock as needed. • May direct helpers and other staff in performing the above work. • Required to follow Board policies and stay abreast of updates and changes. • Perform other duties as assigned. Delivery Responsibilities: • Coordinates delivery of items for disposal. • Operates district delivery vehicles including trucks and vans. • Loading of materials to assure efficiency of delivery schedule, provide for safe operations, and avoid damage to materials being transported. Part IV: Minimum Qualifications: • Two years of warehouse worker experience, experience operating warehouse equipment and knowledge of applied acceptable custodial standards. • Incumbents must have successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population. • Graduation from high school or equivalent. • Ability to recognize and take measures to eliminate safety risk in equipment usage. • Ability to operate computer equipment and maintain accurate and timely records and reports. • Ability to monitor and make accurate calculations on inventory. • Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license and a safe driving record and be able and willing to operate district owned vehicles. • Must have Forklift Certification or obtain within 30 days of being hired. • Must have two years of customer service experience. • This position may be subject to random drug testing. Part V: Desired Qualifications: • Data entry proficiency and knowledge of inventory control procedures. Part VI: Physical and Environmental Requirements of the Position: The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to bend, sit, move about, hear and speak. Noise level may be high when operating power equipment. Employee may be required to work in restricted spaces to include crawling and/or climbing as working at heights. Required to stand, be on feet, and move around for a full work shift. The employee must occasionally, lift and/or move up to 60 pounds and be able to use appropriate support equipment to lift and move greater amounts. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee is required to use properly use such safety equipment as is appropriate to the work to prevent injury to self or others.
