OUR COMPANY The North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) is a not-for-profit international regulatory authority whose mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid. NERC develops and enforces Reliability Standards; annually assesses seasonal and long‐term reliability; monitors the bulk power system through system awareness; and educates, trains, and certifies industry personnel. NERC’s area of responsibility spans the continental United States, Canada, and the northern portion of Baja California, Mexico. NERC is the Electric Reliability Organization (ERO) for North America, subject to oversight by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and provincial authorities in Canada. NERC’s jurisdiction includes users, owners, and operators of the bulk power system, which serves nearly 400 million people.   OUR MISSION The vision for the ERO Enterprise, which is comprised of NERC and the six Regional Entities, is a highly reliable and secure North American bulk power system. Our mission is to assure the effective and efficient reduction of risks to the reliability and security of the grid.   YOUR IMPACT Analytics is key to understanding and predicting system performance. With a mix of analytics, visualization, and modeling techniques, the Senior Data Analyst synthesizes data to help other departments, managers, and executives make business decisions and improve processes in the organization. The Senior Data Analyst may also provide data and analyses to directly support our stakeholders in improving their understanding of risks and performance and to support reliability and security of the bulk power system.   The Senior Data Analyst should be skilled in data management, analytical techniques, and metrics optimization. They combine technical skills like programming, data modeling, and statistics with soft skills like communication, analytical thinking, and problem-solving. Using these skills, the analyst will comb through diverse datasets and work with internal and external stakeholders to generate actionable business insights and solutions. The position supports NERC liaisons of application working groups, internal and external stakeholders’ requests for data or analysis, and development and coordination of enterprise performance analysis activities and participates in defining requirements for systems to support analysis and reporting. The Senior Data Analyst works with NERC’s Enterprise Technology and Engineering teams to identify data and database requirements, as well as NERC’s Project Management Office to support application development. The Senior Data Analyst reports to the Manager of Data and Analytics Integration.   YOUR ROLE * Provide industry expertise and critical thinking skills for identifying needs for developing and analyzing a range of NERC/industry databases and associated performance metrics to protect and improve North American bulk power system reliability. * Contribute to the design and implementation of centralized data collection processes and tools for collection and analysis of reliability metrics. * Strengthen data collection and validation processes for data collections systems.  * Review and analyze nuanced data to identify trends and patterns in data and provide recommendations for improvement, optimization, or value opportunities. * Collect, clean, and analyze data from various sources using statistical methods and tools, such as SQL, Python, R, SAS, or Excel. * Combine data from various sources and document data relationships (data modeling). * Conduct ad-hoc data analysis to support business decisions and strategic planning.  * Communicate data insights to leadership and other stakeholders via presentations or by maintaining reports, dashboards, and visualizations. * Develop, implement, and follow policies, procedures, and processes for the collection and analysis of data. * Locate and define process improvement opportunities. * Participate in a team of subject matter experts providing support and leadership in pursuance of the department and organization’s goals. * Carry out other duties and responsibilities, as directed.    Qualifications The successful candidate will have at a minimum: * BS or AA in information management, computer science, data analytics, economics, statistics, or business intelligence or equivalent combination of training and/or education. * Previous experience in the electric industry, electric power generation, transmission, and power system reliability as well as knowledge of the business and operational functions of an electric utility and familiarity with the risks and controls of these functions. * Seven to ten years of previous analyst experience in a data-intensive environment. * Mathematical skills including statistics. * Intermediate-level computer and programming skills in applications such as Python, Microsoft SQL Server, and Excel (i.e., Macro, VBA, PowerPivot). * Experience with business intelligence tools and systems (i.e., PowerBI, Tableau, SAS) * Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.  * Practical experience with business application of machine learning and data science, including AI.  * Excellent organizational and time management skills. * Critical thinking, analytical skills, and attention to detail. * A methodical, investigative, and inquisitive mind. * Goal-oriented with desire to learn and passion to solve complex issues and problems. * Strong communication and interpersonal skills with proven ability to present findings and recommendations, both orally and in writing, to a diverse audience of technical and non-technical professionals. * A willingness to adapt to the changes in processes and continuously improve. * Ability to interpret client informational needs and determine appropriate solutions. * Capability to work independently or collaboratively with or leading teams and support multiple tasks concurrently.  * Ability to influence and work with peers inside and outside NERC. Preferred candidates will also have: * Understanding of bulk power system operations. * An understanding of and direct experience with all phases of the software development lifecycle. * Proficient in writing both for technical and general public consumption. * Project management experience. * Training experience. * Customer service and support background helpful.   Other * A background check will be conducted prior to employment. * In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification document form upon hire. * This position has been classified as exempt. * The position may be based remotely but must be able to travel to NERC offices or meeting locations if needed. Reimbursement of travel expenses will be in accordance with the company’s travel and expense reimbursement policies.  * Passport required for North American travel. Travel is necessary several times per year.
