Job Description Cat Adoption Team, Executive Director Salary: $140,000-$150,000/year Benefits: Kaiser Health Insurance, 403b with 3% match, EAP, and PTO Reports to: Board of Directors This is a Full-Time position located in Sherwood, Oregon Summary of Responsibilities The Executive Director of Cat Adoption Team (CAT) is responsible for leading and providing oversight of nonprofit operations and implementing the organization’s mission. This includes development, finance, human resources, marketing, community outreach, shelter, and board support. The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director exemplifies the mission, vision, values, and strategic direction of the organization, based on the goals and objectives of the strategic plan, the by-laws, and the fiscal policies as approved by the Board. With 27 years of experience, Cat Adoption Team (CAT) is the largest cat shelter in the Pacific Northwest, having managed over 66,000 adoptions. We offer adoption, foster care, and veterinary services to homeless cats and kittens, and we provide programs that support people in caring for cats. Check out the website at: https://catadoptionteam.org Essential Duties and Responsibilities Overall Operations: Provides leadership and oversight of the Adoption Center and Shelter. Supervises direct reports, including Medical Director, Director of Operations, Development and Communications Director, and Hospital Manager. Leads the Directors’ and Leadership Teams. Supports the engagement of volunteers and community members in shelter operations. Keeps current on and updates new technologies spanning budget administration, donor records, and other information systems to improve processes and efficiency and deliver superior animal welfare and healthcare services. Empowers and holds the management team accountable to stay current on best practices in use at other US animal welfare and veterinary healthcare organizations, and supports the incorporation into shelter operations and policies where appropriate. Communicate updated best practices and accomplishments to various stakeholders as appropriate. Strategic Planning: Working with the Board of Directors and senior staff, develops and implements an agreed-upon strategic plan to maximize the impact of CAT’s programs and operations in the community. Manages development and implementation of annual business plans. Tracks results and updates the plan, reporting progress and challenges to the Board. Human Resources: Ensures CAT effectively recruits, retains, manages, trains, and develops a high-performing team (paid, volunteer, and workforce partners), ensuring ongoing leadership development with the HR, Safety, and Facilities Manager according to authorized personnel policies and procedures in conformance with relevant law, regulations, and best practices. Financial Oversight: Works with directors to develop annual department and organization budgets for Finance Committee and Board approval. Develop financial and investment strategies with the Finance Committee. In coordination with the management and accounting team, prudently manages organization resources using approved budget guidelines and according to applicable laws and regulations. Supports the work with outside auditors to ensure continued compliance with acceptable business practices. Fundraising and Marketing: Supports and engages with the Development & Communications Director, consultants, and staff in planning and implementing development plans and any fundraising campaigns, as well as brand management and stakeholder engagement. Actively engages in the cultivation and solicitation of philanthropic support and is available for one-on-one meetings with current and potential donors. Governance: Supports an effective Board of Directors in exercising their full governance, vision, and service potential on behalf of the organization. Supports operations and administration of the Board, interfaces between Board and staff, and serves as a non-voting member of all board committees. Shared Services and Outreach: Cultivates partnerships and relationships in the region and nationally to expand the reach of CAT’s programs and services with other nonprofits and businesses. Participates/supports engagement with local, regional, and national shelter programs and public policy advocacy activities. Qualifications • Demonstrated passion for the organization’s mission. • Experience in building and supporting a diverse and inclusive environment for personnel and programming. • Entrepreneurial attitude, leadership, and management skills. Experience directing operations, including contract and project management, managing staff, fundraising, and providing financial oversight for a nonprofit or for-profit business. • Experience in identifying, managing, and cultivating donors/donations, with particular focus on fundraising campaigns. • Strong interpersonal skills. Ability to lead diverse teams and work effectively with key stakeholders, including staff, volunteers, and donors, as well as community leaders, animal welfare advocates and organizations, the media, elected and government officials. • Strong Communicator. Excellent listener and ability to communicate using multiple channels, keeping messages understandable and inclusive for a wide range of stakeholders and abilities. Experience in developing and making compelling presentations. • Proven ability to work collaboratively, provide constructive feedback, solve problems, and inspire positive staff morale. Exceptional ability to build and maintain trust among all stakeholders. Commitment to personal and professional development of both staff and volunteers. Strong Commitment to cultivating a culture of belonging for a diverse range of staff, volunteers, and clients. • Exemplifies the highest level of personal and business ethics, honesty, and transparency. • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or equivalent experience in a relevant field, preferred. • Animal welfare experience preferred. Work Environment • Ability to utilize Google systems, social media, and other applications. • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time and lift up to 40 lbs. • Support for emergency responses as needed. • Regular interaction and engagement with cats and exposure to zoonotic disease. • Completion of reference check and background check will be required.
