Overview The National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB), the nation's largest small business advocacy organization, looks to hire an Assistant State Director to join its Government Relations team in Columbus, OH. This role will be fully in office- no remote or hybrid work. Responsibilities The Assistant State Director supports the State Director with the management of the internal, legislative, and political affairs of the state office to further the interests of NFIB in the assigned state. Works to maintain and strengthen the legislative contact network among members. Responsibilities include interacting with the state's legislative offices/committees to promote the interests of NFIB and the small business community; facilitating member relations through written communications, meetings, and resolution of member inquiries; support and plan Small Business Day and relevant member event programs; research/analyze legislative issues that impact NFIB membership and effectively communicate positions and perspectives to relevant audiences. Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; work outcomes must meet and / or exceed productivity and quality standards. Must be able to work as part of a cooperative team environment, adhering to Company and Department policies and procedures. Performs other projects as needed. Qualifications • Bachelor's degree or equivalent. • Five (5) years' experience in association advocacy, government / public affairs, legislative staff position in state government or similar position. • Specialized knowledge of state legislative process. Knowledge of political issues through previous work and research experience. • Proficient in Microsoft Office. Experience using a CRM system, desktop publishing, legislative tracking processes and platforms • Professional, energetic, and enthusiastic. Must possess excellent organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communications skills. • Strong writing and editing skills; superior public speaking ability. Equal Opportunity Employer
