Job Title: Technical Writer / Policy Media Specialist Location: Washington, DC Job Category: Information Technology Time Type: Full-time Potential for Telework: offsite work granted in advance in writing by the COR Minimum Clearance Required to Start: Clearable Employee Type: W2 or 1099 Citizenship: US Citizen, no Dual Citizenship NexThreat is seeking an experienced Technical Writer / Policy Media Specialist who will be responsible for developing, maintaining, and publishing cybersecurity policy documents, training materials, and communications media that support DOT cybersecurity governance, workforce training, and awareness initiatives. This role ensures policy and technical content is clear, consistent, and operationally usable. Primary Responsibilities: • Draft, edit, and maintain cybersecurity and information assurance policies, standards, procedures, and guidance • Support development of Compendiums, IT Implementation Memoranda (ITIMs), Cyber Technical Bulletins (CTBs), and job aids • Develop training materials, desk guides, and supporting documentation for cybersecurity awareness and role-based training • Support policy lifecycle activities, including draft reviews, comment adjudication, and leadership approval preparation • Maintain policy inventories and document libraries using SharePoint and MS Teams • Ensure all written materials meet DOT quality standards (clarity, accuracy, grammar, consistency) • Develop communications and media supporting cybersecurity awareness campaigns and events • Create visual aids, diagrams, and presentation materials to support executive and workforce communications • Coordinate with Lead Cybersecurity Specialist to ensure alignment with current policy and technical direction Required Qualifications: • Bachelor’s degree in Technical Communication, English, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience) • Minimum 5–7 years of experience writing cybersecurity, IT, or compliance documentation • Demonstrated experience supporting federal policy or governance programs • Familiarity with NIST SP 800-53, NIST CSF, Zero Trust, ICAM, and federal cybersecurity terminology • Experience using SharePoint, MS Teams, and Microsoft Office for document management and collaboration • Strong editing, proofreading, and document quality assurance skills • Ability to translate complex technical material into clear, actionable guidance \n \n
