Software Engineer in Test – Mobile & Platform United States | Remote-first | Full-time East Coast time zones Nexa is partnering with an early-stage healthcare AI company building a participant engagement platform for cardiometabolic care. We’re looking for a Senior Quality Engineer to become the first dedicated QA owner across the platform. The primary focus will be an Expo/React Native mobile application, but you’ll also own quality across APIs, backend services and integrations with third-party healthcare systems. This is not a role focused on testing individual screens in isolation. You’ll be responsible for complete user journeys spanning mobile, web, backend services and external systems. The role Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you will: • Define the company’s test strategy, coverage standards and release-readiness criteria • Build and maintain automated mobile E2E tests using Maestro • Perform exploratory testing across iOS and Android • Test offline behaviour, device fragmentation and mobile edge cases • Review Figma designs before development to identify UX issues and missing scenarios • Own testing across TestFlight, internal tracks, staged rollouts and app-store releases • Build automated API test coverage for backend services • Test asynchronous workflows, webhooks, data synchronisation and third-party integrations • Validate failure handling and degraded behaviour when external services are unavailable • Use logs, traces and metrics to investigate defects across service boundaries • Work closely with Product and Engineering to improve acceptance criteria • Document and track defects in Linear with clear reproduction steps • Monitor post-release quality and drive continuous improvement Technology • Expo / React Native • iOS and Android • Maestro • REST APIs and JSON • Firebase backend services • Third-party healthcare integrations • Figma • Linear • CI/CD-integrated test execution What we’re looking for • At least five years of software QA experience • Proven ownership of quality for an iOS or Android product • Experience building and maintaining automated E2E tests using Maestro, Detox, Appium or similar • Strong API testing experience using Postman, Insomnia or code-based approaches • Experience testing system integrations, asynchronous workflows, webhooks and failure modes • Ability to interpret application logs and understand backend workflows • Strong knowledge of mobile release processes, including TestFlight and staged rollouts • A strong understanding of test design, defect triage and risk-based testing • The ability to work autonomously and establish a QA process from the ground up • Clear written communication and precise bug reporting Useful additional experience • Digital health, healthcare data or another regulated environment • HIPAA, healthcare privacy or EHR integrations • Testing conversational or LLM-based products • AI-specific failure modes, including non-determinism, safety guardrails and prompt injection • Expo or React Native • Building test frameworks as an SDET • SQL and backend data validation • Accessibility or security testing Why join? • Become the first dedicated quality owner in a small engineering team • Shape the QA strategy as the company and product grow • Work on a mission-driven product addressing major public-health challenges • Have direct influence over a product used in real-world healthcare journeys • Work in a remote-first, async-friendly environment • Competitive salary, benefits and equity participation If you’ve built mobile test automation, understand how modern backend systems behave and want genuine ownership of quality from day one, we’d like to hear from you.
