We are driving the expansion of our supply chain of steel and plastics fabrication for garage organization products by leveraging advanced automation for cutting, forming, bending, welding, powder coating, and plastics injection/extrusion molding processes. We seek a motivated Manufacturing Engineer to report to the Senior Project Manager, ensuring technical validation and integration of production equipment and processes while building data-driven cost modeling for capital expenditures (CapEx) and operating costs. The Manufacturing Engineer will be a key technical contributor to building a manufacturing facility, validating machine specifications, integrating automated production lines, and providing performance data to support the Senior Project Manager’s strategic cost modeling for high volume manufacturing with production targets of 300,000+ units across multiple product types. Using carbon cold-rolled steel, stainless steel, aluminum, polypropylene and/or PVC - the role focuses on ensuring equipment performance, process efficiency, and cost-effectiveness in a fast-paced startup environment, with increasing emphasis on hands-on execution during implementation. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: Equipment Specification and Validation * Validate specifications for cutting (e.g., laser), forming, bending (e.g., CNC press brakes), welding, powder coating equipment, and injection/extrusion plastic molding equipment. Ensuring alignment with production goals. * Conduct qualitative (e.g., usability, safety) and quantitative (e.g., cycle times, material yield, energy costs) analyses to confirm equipment throughput and value propositions. * Provide machine throughput data to support CapEx cost modeling. * Support vendor RFQs and proposal evaluations to ensure cost-effective equipment selection. Production Line Integration * Collaborate with vendors (e.g., Arku, Amada, Prima Power, Fanuc or equivalents) to design and integrate automated production lines, targeting “lights out” operations to minimize labor costs. * Lead or assist in equipment installation, commissioning, and testing to ensure seamless operation, including on-site evaluations during implementation. * Optimize process workflows and factory layout for material handling and automation efficiency. From raw materials to finished packaged goods. Cost Analysis Leadership * Collect data-driven insights on machine costs (e.g., purchase, maintenance) and operating costs (e.g., energy, consumables) to inform CapEx and operating cost projections. * Validate cost modeling for raw materials inputs from suppliers (e.g., steel coils, powder coat) and scalable production. Factory Launch, Process Optimization and Troubleshooting * Develop SOPs for fabrication processes, ensuring compliance with industry standards. * Evaluate equipment and process issues to maximize efficiency, with hands-on involvement during factory launch. * Leading implementation of automation platforms (e.g., Beckhoff or similar) and ERP systems for real-time monitoring. QUALIFICATIONS: * Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related. * Experience launching a factory capable of processing +20000 tons of steel/year. * 5–10 years in mechanical engineering or steel fabrication, with 2+ years in equipment validation or production line integration. * Experience with automation vendors (e.g., Arku, Amada, Mazak, Fanuc, Gema) or comparable systems. * Hands-on experience with CNC machines, press brakes, laser cutters, roll-forming, robotic welders, powder coating systems, and injection and extrusion molding. * Exposure to data-driven cost analysis for manufacturing and packaging equipment or processes. * Proficiency in reading technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals. * Knowledge of steel properties (e.g., cold-rolled steel) and fabrication processes. * Familiarity with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and data analysis tools (e.g., Excel). * Analytical problem-solving and attention to detail. * Strong communication for collaboration with vendors and teams. * Adaptability in a fast-paced startup environment. * Familiarity with manufacturing startups, or “lights out” automation is an asset. * Certifications in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or automation platforms is an asset. * Knowledge of ERP systems or Industry 4.0 technologies is an asset. * Experience with high volume manufacturing, ex. +20000 tons of steel/year is an asset. TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS: * Travel 20–30% domestically and internationally for supplier visits, on-site machine evaluations, equipment installations, and commissioning during implementation and execution phases. Valid passport and driver's license required; travel expenses covered. * Professional development in automation and Industry 4.0 technologies, including travel for industry exposure.
