INTERN, ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT Location [Albany, NY] As a leader in advancing New York’s energy transition, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has remained a credible, objective and trusted partner in ours state’s energy planning as well as deploying new and innovative technologies to expand New York’s economy. NYSERDA has worked for the past 50 years to protect the environment and help New Yorkers increase energy efficiency, lower energy costs and reduce reliance on fossil fuels. NYSERDA engages with stakeholders including residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:  * Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.  * Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.  * Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably in the clean energy transition.  BUILDING STRATEGY & PLANNING DATA INTERN As a leader in advancing New York’s energy transition, the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority (NYSERDA) has remained a credible, objective and trusted partner in our state’s energy planning as well as deploying new and innovative technologies to expand New York’s economy. NYSERDA engages with stakeholders including residents, business owners, developers, community leaders, local government officials, universities, utilities, investors, entrepreneurs, and more, to develop, invest, and foster conditions that:  * Attract the private sector capital investment needed to expand New York’s clean energy economy.  * Overcome barriers to using clean energy at a large-scale in New York.  * Enable New York’s communities and residents to benefit equitably in the clean energy transition.  INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW The Clean and Resilient Buildings (CRB) team seeks an intern to support several data and market research related projects.  This is a paid internship for current students at an accredited college. The pay rate is from $18 to $20 per hour based on current class year. This internship is expected to begin on June 1, 2026, with the possibility of starting earlier based on student availability and may continue through August 30, 2026, or extend into the academic school year. Interns must be located in New York State or an immediately adjacent state while working. It is expected that interns will follow our telework policy, with a combination of in-office and remote work. Interns work up to 18.5 hours per week during the semester, and up to 37.5 hours per week between semesters, when not attending classes. PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES * Identify software tools and structure for a database that catalogs thermal energy networks projects, leverage case studies to develop and populate the database, and query the database to identify trends and data gaps.  * Perform market research and tracking of trends in the building energy space, such as cost trends, and other research and support tasks as assigned. Collaborate on cross-team projects and coordination of key buildings data sets across internal teams and business units at NYSERDA used for research * Communicate results of data projects to a diversity of audiences MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS * Currently progressing towards an undergraduate or advanced degree in data science, building science, engineering or related field. * Interest in building decarbonization * Strong data analysis and data visualization skills (e.g., Tableau or PowerBI). Experience with programming language (e.g., Python or SQL). * Prior experience developing and querying databases including both quantitative and qualitative data. Understanding of fundamentals of data architecture. * Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams).  * Strong communication and storytelling skills, including the ability to communicate structured insights from data analyses and research to varied audiences, including executives.  * Ability to demonstrate respect, equity and inclusive behavior and practices of a diverse workforce and community.
