Location: Salem, OR Schedule: Full-time, In-Office (M–F, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, No Weekends) Compensation: $17–$20 per hour, DOE About the Role We’re looking for a talented and versatile Staff Writer to join our Salem-based team. In this role, you’ll write engaging, accurate, and polished content that highlights small and medium-sized businesses across more than 50 markets in the United States. From short business spotlights to in-depth paid features, you’ll help tell the stories of local businesses that are making an impact in their communities. What You’ll Do • Write short business profiles using information provided by clients or sourced from their websites and social media. • Create longer paid features for both print and digital publications by: Interviewing business owners and representatives. Researching businesses online to gather background and context. Editing and refining client-provided stories to meet internal editorial standards. • Write in a clear, engaging, and professional style tailored for both advertising and editorial contexts. • Ensure all copy aligns with AP Style guidelines. • Manage multiple assignments and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. What We’re Looking For • 1–3 years of professional writing, ad copy, or journalism experience (internships and college writing experience considered). • Strong grammar, spelling, and editing skills. • Familiarity with AP Style and ability to adapt to internal editorial standards. • Experience writing for small business, marketing, advertising, or community publications is a plus. • Ability to conduct professional interviews and distill key messages into compelling copy. • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects at once. • A portfolio or writing samples that showcase ad-style, feature, or profile writing.
