911 Dispatcher – Emergency Communications Location: Washington, DC Employment Type: Contract Job Summary A public safety communications center in Washington, DC is seeking qualified 911 Dispatchers to support emergency response operations. This role requires experience in multi-discipline dispatch environments and the ability to manage radio communications during both routine and high-risk incidents. Core Responsibilities • Dispatch police and Fire/EMS units for emergency and non-emergency incidents • Monitor unit status and response activity in real time • Operate primary and secondary radio channels while maintaining channel discipline • Activate backup systems when primary systems are unavailable • Apply proper radio protocols and ensure required notifications are completed • Analyze incident details to determine appropriate emergency response levels • Relay information clearly and accurately to field units • Document all incidents with complete and accurate details • Modify event classifications as additional information is received Minimum Requirements • High school diploma or equivalent • At least 1 year of experience as a released Emergency Communications Officer in a multi-discipline PSAP Knowledge, Skills & Abilities • Strong verbal and written communication skills • Ability to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment • Typing speed of 25 WPM or higher • Ability to remain calm and focused during emergencies • Ability to follow procedures and directives • Fluency in English (spoken and written) • Experience in two or more preferred: Call Taking, Fire/Rescue Radio Operations, Law Enforcement Radio Operations • Willingness to work assigned schedules • Compliance with all jurisdictional policies and procedures
