Job Overview: We are seeking a data engineer to support our data engineering and analytics team with a heavy focus on our financial and core business performance data. The purpose of this role is to ensure that data products are designed, created, and delivered in a timely manner with high quality. The ideal candidate for the role of Data Engineer should possess a background in data & business analysis, with a preference for database migration and deprecation. Extensive experience in MSSQL development & administration, SQL scripting, DW design & data modeling, ETL development and version control. DB migrations, python programming, advance SQL skills, Snowflake, SQL Server, data lakes, schema change management, familiarity with testing protocols and project management skills are requirements. Must have soft skills: ability to be customer facing, comprehensive documentation skills and owns the responsibility of delivering on assignments. This role is remote but may require occasional travel to the Corporate office in Denver, CO. The position reports to the Data Manager. Compensation Range: $80,000 - $110,000 Base + Bonus Principal Job Duties: Primary skills required will include advanced SQL, data-based python (not SW apps) coding and ETL development in any mainstream tool. Preference for experience with Databricks, Snowflake, MSSQL, ADF, and Azure. Required experience migrating at least 2 enterprise databases. Work with internal/business stakeholders on collecting reporting requirements for migration and translate those requirements into technical migration strategy. Perform technical research, data profiling, and testing of data assumptions in data sources and in current data products. Explain data concepts, reports, KPIs, and other technical subjects in business terms. Document development standards, KPI calculations, business glossary terms, table diagrams, and other subjects related to NSA data or reports. Cross-functional collaboration between stakeholders and data engineers to provide requirements for new dataset requests, modifications to existing ones and resolve any existing data issues. Document existing MSSQL ETL process, work with architect to create migration strategy into Snowflake. Perform dimensional data modeling and design database objects for ease of access, performance, and consistency is a strong plus. Qualifications/Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or equivalent related work experience. 2+ Enterprise level database migration projects. 4+ years working with Microsoft SQL Server; specifically, the ability to reverse engineer existing data processes. 4+ years working with mainstream ETL tools. 4+ years experience manipulating/extracting/working with data via Python and extracting data from REST APIs. 4+ years of technical experience in data warehouse development, design, and modeling. Extensive understanding of reporting & analytic testing frameworks and passionate about documentation. Experience working in a data warehouse environment that is subject to external auditing practices. Strong understanding of data modeling concepts in data warehousing. Exceptional communication skills and ability to document software requirements and functionality for various audiences is required. Ability & willingness to own delivery of your own work product.
