Middle School Homeroom & English Language Arts Teacher (6th Grade) Full-Time | Remote (Michigan-Based or Eligible for MI Certification) Immediate Opening My Virtual Academy (MVA) is seeking a full-time Middle School Homeroom & English Language Arts Teacher to support our 6th grade students in a fully virtual learning environment. This is a combination role designed for an educator who thrives at the intersection of instruction, relationship-building, and student advocacy. In this role, you'll serve as the dedicated homeroom teacher for approximately 35 students while also providing English Language Arts instruction across multiple ELA sections. You'll play a critical role in supporting both academic progress and the overall middle school experience. Please note: Due to instructional scheduling requirements, candidates residing in the Pacific Time Zone are not eligible for this role. Key Responsibilities English Language Arts Instruction • Provide ELA instruction for 6th grade students across multiple class sections. • Maintain full ownership of the English curriculum, including: • Lesson planning • Content updates • Grading and feedback • Deliver engaging live instruction and support asynchronous learning using MVA platforms. • Develop and assign supplemental activities and assessments (including Seesaw when appropriate). • Monitor student progress and adjust instruction to meet diverse learning needs. • Maintain accurate documentation and student records within required systems. Homeroom & Student Support • Serve as the dedicated homeroom teacher for approximately 35 students. • Facilitate daily homeroom sessions (approximately 1 hour per day). • Act as the primary point of contact for students and families. • Provide consistent family communication, including progress updates and outreach. • Support student engagement, attendance, organization, and social-emotional needs. • Collaborate with support teams to remove barriers to student success. • Maintain thorough documentation related to student support and communication. Collaboration & Professional Responsibilities • Collaborate closely with: • Middle School instructional teams • Student support teams • Special populations and intervention staff • Participate in team meetings, professional development, and required trainings. • Host and attend Power Hours and Learning Labs as part of instructional and homeroom support. • Uphold MVA's commitment to a supportive, inclusive, and student-centered learning environment. Time Allocation (Flexible Structure subject to change) While flexibility is built into the role, the general weekly focus includes: • ~1 hour/day - Homeroom instruction and student check-ins • ~3-4 hours/day - English Language Arts instruction • ~3 hours/day - Family communication, meetings, planning, and collaboration Qualifications • Valid Michigan teaching certification (standard certification preferred). • English Language Arts (ELA) endorsement or certification preferred. • Out-of-state candidates must be eligible and willing to obtain Michigan certification within 3 months of hire. • Middle school teaching experience preferred. • Strong virtual instruction and classroom management skills. • Ability to manage multiple responsibilities while maintaining strong relationships. • Comfort using educational technology and learning management systems. • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
