Our infrastructure handles complex broadcasting, low-latency streaming, and high-engagement user experiences. All live, all the time. We’re building a platform where creators can express themselves freely and grow their communities, where viewers discover and interact with creators they’re drawn to, and where the team behind it is challenged, trusted, and responsible for shaping the experience of millions of users around the world. We value people who take initiative, stay curious, and care deeply about the quality and impact of what they build. The Role We’re looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join the XO team, which builds the real-time systems that power personalized, in-session experiences across our streaming products. You’ll take ownership of complex, distributed systems, clarify ambiguous problems, and deliver scalable, reliable solutions that sit at the intersection of product, data, ML, and infrastructure. Beyond shipping code, you’ll influence technical direction, raise the bar for system design and reliability, and mentor other engineers as the platform continues to scale. What You’ll Do Design, build, and operate backend services that power real-time, personalized user experiences across our streaming products Own systems that translate behavioral data and ML outputs into in-session product logic, recommendations, and engagement features Lead systems design in ambiguous or early-stage problem spaces, setting technical direction and making scalable architectural decisions Build and evolve user segmentation and cohorting frameworks based on behavioral and trait data Partner closely with data science and ML teams to productionize models into reliable backend services Develop internal tools and platforms used by PMs, GTM, and business teams to understand and act on user data You Have Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field 7+ years of backend or systems engineering experience, including 4+ years at a senior level Proficient in programming languages such as Python, Java, Rust, or Golang and have experience with cloud platforms like AWS or GCP Strong systems design expertise in high-scale, real-time, or event-driven architectures Experience building data-driven or ML-informed personalization systems Hands-on experience with behavioral data modeling, user segmentation, or cohorting Experience collaborating effectively with Data Scientists and ML engineers Familiarity with CDPs, CMSs, or segmentation platforms (internal or third-party) is a plus Have a history of influencing others outside of your team You’ll Get Competitive compensation with performance bonuses Fully remote option Health, vision, dental, and life insurance for you and any dependents, with policy premiums covered by the company Long- & short-term disability insurance Unlimited PTO Annual year-end company closure Optional 401k with 5% matching 12 paid holidays Paid lunches in-office; if remote, a $125/week stipend via Sharebite EAP and employee recognition programs The base salary range for this position is $180,000 - $215,000 annually. Range reflects base salary only. It does not include additional compensation or benefits. The range displayed reflects the minimum and maximum range for a new hire across the U.S. for the posted position. A candidate's specific pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the candidate's job-related skills, relevant education, training, experience, certifications, and abilities of the candidate, as well as other factors unique to each candidate.
