Description Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities. We are searching for a Part-Time IMRF (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund Pension) Athletics Coordinator. The PT-IMRF Athletics Coordinator is responsible for assisting in the coordination of the District’s youth and adult athletics leagues and directly supervising select youth and adult programs and all athletic equipment operations. Responsibilities include registration procedures, communication with involved parties, setting schedules and other administrative duties. The PT-IMRF Athletics Coordinator will also assist with facility and field supervision on an as needed basis. The PT-IMRF Athletics Coordinator can expect to work two weekday shifts, one weeknight shift, one midday shift and one weekend shift per week, averaging 21-27 hours per week and less than 1,500 hours annually. Weekday shift hours will vary between 8am-5pm, weeknight shifts will vary between 2pm-10pm, midday shifts will vary between 10am-7pm, and weekend shifts will vary between 8am-5pm. Shift times may vary based on program needs, special events, or facility requirements. The PT-IMRF Athletics Coordinator must be at least 18 years old, hold and maintain a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The pay rate for the PT-IMRF Athletics Coordinator is $18 - $21 per hour, depending on qualifications. A typical work schedule will include two weekday shifts, one weeknight shift, one midday shift & one weekend shift per week. Weekday shift hours will vary between 8am-5pm, weeknight shift will vary between 2pm-10pm, midday shifts will vary between 10am-7pm, and weekend shifts will vary between 8am-5pm. Shift times may vary based on program needs, special events, or facility requirements. Essential Duties Support the Athletics Department by coordinating, planning, and evaluating youth and adult athletic leagues, including but not limited to registration, working with volunteer coaches, scheduling, team roster formation, and all aspects of the Team Sideline website. Under the supervision of the Athletics Manager, directly supervise contractual athletics programs, including but not limited to We Got Game, gymnastics programming, and the Adult Pickleball League. Assist with running the department's special events (Bags Tournament, Baseball/Softball Day, One-Day Tournaments) and all player skills days for youth house and travel basketball, house and travel baseball, and softball. Serve as the department’s equipment liaison. Research and recommend equipment and supply purchases. May be required to set up and take down equipment on playing fields and courts for league games. Responsible for distributing equipment to coaches and ensuring its return. Assist with the implementation of staff and volunteer coaches’ trainings and manuals. Provide direct on-site supervision of facilities and youth athletic leagues as needed. Properly schedule programs in coordination with athletics and facility staff. Assist the Athletics Manager and Athletics Supervisor with coordinating brochure copy, including data entry, proofreading, and database updates pertaining to athletics programs. Assist the Athletics Manager with administering the registration process, including reviewing revenue, expenses, and attendance figures for youth leagues and programs. Observe athletics programs on a regular basis and offer recommendations to the Athletics Manager and Athletics Supervisor. Provide excellent customer service to Park District patrons utilizing Park District facilities and participating in Park District programming. Follow, adhere to, and enforce all Park District policies and procedures, including Athletics Department–specific procedures. Attend staff meetings, training, and special events as required. Provide input for risk management, safety, and security plans, policies, and procedures. Prepare regular monthly board reports and departmental reports for the Athletics Manager. Collect, review, analyze, report, and recommend best practices based on participant feedback. Collect, input, and update standard operating procedures, manuals, and guidelines. Work with the Athletics Supervisor and Athletics Manager to coordinate the youth and adult athletics needs of the community. Establish relationships with outside organizations and network with related groups. Secondary Duties May be asked to supervise staff and volunteer coaches on game days. May be asked to step in as a scorekeeper or official as needed. Serve on internal and external committees as assigned. Assist with marketing efforts for athletics programs. Maintain a clean and organized work environment. Perform additional duties as assigned, which may be considered essential. Perform all other duties as assigned by the Athletics Supervisor, Athletics Manager, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation, and/or Executive Director. In an emergency, perform all duties as required. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years old. Must possess a good understanding of various athletic programs and their specific rules. Must demonstrate an understanding of athletics operations, including experience and proven ability in developing successful athletics programs and leagues from concept to implementation. Must possess and hold a valid driver’s license and have reliable transportation to go to District facilities. Must be proficient in MS Office, Google Workspace (including Google Docs), TeamSideline, database software, internet applications, and website portals. Must be CPR/AED certified or attain valid CPR/AED certification within one (1) month of employment and maintain certification throughout employment. Must have proven ability to effectively multitask and manage large-scale, complex projects. Must possess sound budgetary skills. Must possess strong oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for coordination of work, safety, and emergency response, while representing the Park District in a positive and professional manner. Must possess a high level of energy, social skills, initiative, and enthusiasm. Must demonstrate good judgment and discretion and be able to work cooperatively with others. Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and respond accordingly. Must have the ability to work with minimal supervision and possess strong problem-solving skills. This position involves sitting, standing, and walking throughout the day. Must be able to lift 50 pounds as needed. Must be able to perform tasks that require bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing, and reaching. The Athletics Coordinator will work both indoors and outdoors. Indoor facilities are smoke-free with controlled temperatures and fluorescent lighting. Outdoor work involves exposure to weather conditions including sunlight, humidity, rain, and varying temperatures. Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours will be required. The work schedule may vary, and the workweek may exceed regular hours at times, but will not exceed 1,500 hours per year.
