The Digital Volunteer Engagement Manager will build, maintain, and deepen relationships with the volunteer base for Rapid Recruit. This role involves leveraging AI tools for communication and engagement while executing recruitment strategies to grow the volunteer list significantly.
Candidates should have 2-5 years of experience with digital and creative campaigns and 1-3 years of experience in recruiting and engaging volunteers. Familiarity with managing experiments and tracking data is preferred.

We are hiring a short-term Digital Volunteer Engagement Manager to help us spin up this experiment, and test out new ways to mobilize people. This role is focused on building, maintaining, and deepening relationships with our volunteer base developed for Rapid Recruit, a project to stop authoritarianism. The Digital Volunteer Manager ensures our national list of volunteers remains engaged, mobilized, and consistently recruited into meaningful actions that advance our mission to stop authoritarianism and defend democracy. This is a high-intensity, fast-paced role that runs until December 19, with the possibility of extension if the experiment is successful. We will need our new Digital Volunteer Manager to hit the ground running, and be super stoked to sprint on this innovative and potentially hugely impactful project. We are a national organization that works across timezones. A flexible schedule is a plus. This role is fully remote. Responsibilities Volunteer Recruitment and Engagement Leverage Movement Lab’s in house AI Chat Bot to effectively communicate with and engage volunteers In collaboration with the team, develop and execute ongoing recruitment strategies to grow Movement Labs’ nationwide volunteer list to 250k in 2025 and 1M in 2026. Track the growth and sustainability of the volunteer list. Work with Movement Labs team to invite volunteers into high-priority actions, events, and experiments (phonebanks, texting campaigns, mobilization pilots, etc.). Maintain consistent volunteer touchpoints via text, ensuring strong follow-through and high engagement. Create and manage segmented volunteer communications that tailor engagement to interest areas, availability, and past participation. Relationship Building & Retention Build brand-aligned relationships with volunteers, ensuring they feel valued, supported, and part of a broader community. Use Movement Labs AI Chat Bot to regularly implement recognition and retention strategies (e.g., thank-you notes, leader spotlights, milestone tracking). Identify and cultivate emerging volunteer leaders, supporting their growth into sustained organizing roles. Track volunteer satisfaction and engagement, and surface insights to the organizing team to strengthen strategy. List & Data Management Maintain accurate and up-to-date volunteer records across databases and digital organizing tools (EveryAction, Mobilize, ThruText, etc.). Regularly clean and segment lists to optimize outreach and reduce drop-off. Track key metrics (e.g., open rates, sign-up conversion, retention rates, participation levels) to measure volunteer engagement and campaign effectiveness. Generate weekly or monthly engagement reports to share progress with senior staff and cross-team partners. Program & Campaign Support Support cross-team coordination for volunteer-driven campaigns and experiments- many of which will be with partners and some will be ML led. Collaborate with project managers, communications team, and tech teams to align volunteer outreach with campaign goals. Provide logistical support for volunteer-driven actions (e.g., training calls, onboarding sessions, rapid-response mobilizations). Document best practices and lessons learned from volunteer engagement pilots and experiments. Annual salary of $82,680 pro-rated for short-term role, as part of a transparent salary structure with clear levels of advancement. This position is not eligible for the collective bargaining unit.
