8+ years professional experience with 6+ years as a Project Manager, PMP certification preferred, expertise in Microsoft Project Online, Power BI, JIRA, and Waterfall methodology, ideally in energy or utility sectors.
Our client, an independent energy organization, is hiring for a contract Senior Project Manager. This is a remote position but must reside in Texas to be eligible for conversion to full-time. The key projects this individual will lead involve: upgrading energy infrastructure systems, reconciling retail market and settlements for commercial operations, business continuity planning + employee outreach / emergency communications, software implementations, and technical integrations of GRC. Strong preference for energy/utility industry experience, specifically with settlements and/or market management. Duration: 6 Months to Start, Potential to Convert to Full-Time Required Skill & Experience • Minimum 8 years of relevant professional experience beyond degree requirements. • Minimum 6 years as a Project Manager leading large-scale projects. • Project schedule creation and maintenance using Microsoft Project Online or Project Server. • Project reporting using Microsoft Project Online and Power BI. • Minimum 2 years in a Program Manager role (preferred). • Task assignment and tracking using JIRA (preferred). • Software project management experience, preferably within the Transmission or Electric Generation industries. • Must have: Waterfall project management experience. Desired Skills & Experience • Experience using Microsoft Project Client and Microsoft Project Online/Server. • Electrical market experience. • Texas-based or open to relocation if opportunity opens for full-time conversion. What You Will Be Doing Daily Responsibilities • Manages projects consistent with the organization's Corporate Standards, Operating Procedures, and departmental processes. • Oversees project scope, schedule, budget, risk/issue management, change control, phase gating, and general project administration. • Promotes a culture of early risk mitigation and accountability, incorporating relevant techniques into project planning and execution. • Understands project success criteria and provides guidance to the delivery structure to meet defined objectives. • Develops detailed project plans specifying milestones, tasks, durations, and resource allocations for each project phase. • Manages team performance to ensure deliverables are completed on time, within scope and budget, with high priority items tracked to completion. • Manages vendor activities to ensure alignment with Statements of Work and organizational standards. • Leads and coordinates cross-functional teams, promoting collaboration, transparency, and effective communication. • Monitors key performance metrics to track progress against schedule and budget expectations. • Proactively and effectively communicates project status, risks, and issues to management, project owners, and other stakeholders. • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills and sound judgment for escalation and decision-making. • Creates and maintains project schedules using Microsoft Project Online and Microsoft Project Client. • Leverages Microsoft Project Online and Power BI for project tracking, dashboards, and reporting. • May advise or mentor lower-level project managers and support staff. • Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for achieving project goals. • Engages with senior management and executives to provide updates and guidance. • Skilled at project planning in a resource-matrixed enterprise. • Manages projects of the highest complexity with a high degree of autonomy. • Maintains a strong understanding of organization's business, systems, and market operations. • Leads and facilitates resolution of complex project issues and organizational change management activities. • May provide recommendations on process improvements outside defined procedures. • Supports onboarding and readiness activities for new project managers. • Leads or contributes to Project Management Office (PMO) improvement initiatives. • Accurately forecasts project resources required for successful execution and manages competing priorities effectively. Education • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field (Required). • Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field (Preferred). • Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered. Certifications • PMP – Project Management Professional (Highly Preferred) • PgMP – Program Management Professional (Preferred)
