Full Description

This is a part-time position. Hours will roughly be 15-20 hours per week, Monday-Friday. OVERVIEW You'll serve as the copyeditor and fact-checker for some of Morning Brew’s consumer publications which cover business, markets, and tech. In this role, you’ll read and review newsletter items, interviews, and reported stories for errors and other considerations. Being a team player and getting along with peers is essential. HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE FOCUSED ON • Making sure stories adhere to Morning Brew’s style guide and overall tone • Proofreading text and correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors for Brew Markets • Verifying factual correctness of information, such as dates and statistics • Fact-checking original reporting and stories, with experience working with editors and reporters to ensure that stories are as accurate as possible • Ensuring stories are logically structured • Working with the managing editor to publish newsletters QUALIFICATIONS • Ideally, two years of experience copy editing and/or fact checking at a news or media publication—but if you don't have quite that experience, we'd still like to hear from you! • Experience working with reporters and editors, preferably in financial journalism • A sharp eye for detail, the ability to catch every spelling, grammar, and punctuation mistake • Ability to manage multiple projects on a tight deadline • Fluency with online publishing and organizational tools • Strong written communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team COMPENSATION $40-45/hr commensurate with experience.
