Job Summary - Juvenile Dependency and Delinquency We are currently searching for an Associate Attorney to join our law firm. Mockingbird is devoted almost exclusively to juvenile dependency and delinquency cases. We take court appointed cases representing youth, children, and parents when child welfare is involved. The ideal candidate will be certified for criminal and juvenile cases up to and including termination of parental rights cases. For the right candidate, we are willing to train and provide supervision in order to get certified through the state. The attorney will be expected to handle all stages of representation, including appearing on short notice for shelter hearings, through resolution. Dependency cases vary in length of case but can take up to two years or longer. Some appearances are in person, some are remote. Duties • regular client contact, including home visits for children if you are representing the child in a matter • researching and drafting pleadings • factual investigations including working with investigators and analysis of when experts need to be brought onto the case • negotiation, including mitigation when appropriate • Trial and all other court appearances in a case • being on call for a rotation with the court Requirements • Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. • Admission to the state bar and eligibility to practice law in the relevant jurisdiction. • Strong skills in legal research and drafting • Knowledge of juvenile law and criminal law is highly desirable. Knowledge of appellate practice also helpful. • Excellent analytical skills with the ability to think critically and articulate complex legal concepts clearly. • strong courtroom appearance and abilities • Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively communicate with clients, colleagues, and court personnel. • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team-oriented environment.
