About the Team The Operational Finance Team is responsible for a variety of tasks that are instrumental in keeping the business running on a day to day basis. There are six teams within the Operational Finance Function each serve a specific purpose to the company: (1) Accounting and Accounts Payable - Accurately records all vendor related transactions and keeps our vendors paid, (2) AR Team - provisions all customers access to Mixpanel and ensure proper revenue recognition and records all customer payments and ensures we get paid on time, (3) Payroll - prepares payrolls for all employees world wide. (4) Deal Desk - facilitates in the contract review and execution of customer contracts and assists the sales team to accelerate the deal cycle. (5) Procurement - oversees and facilitates the source to pay process with an objective of efficiency and cost savings. About the Role Mixpanel is looking for someone to be the first tax hire, with the primary focus being indirect tax with a heavy focus on international indirect tax. They should have strong experience with a variety of indirect and International tax operations and has the ability to drive process improvements. This person should work well independently as well as the ability to work well with stakeholders and communicate the benefits of tax initiatives. In this role, strong accounting, analytical, and research skills will be required along with excellent written and oral communication skills. We are looking for a Indirect Tax Manager who will direct and manage multiple operations related to taxes while also participating in the preparation of recurring obligations. This role will manage specific indirect tax-related functions in addition to compliance-related activities and to plan, manage and develop over all aspects of the company's tax process. This role will report to the Corporate Controller. Responsibilities Facilitate and coordinate with outside tax consultants the preparation, review and submission of the all required company tax filings, including: Sales Tax, 1099, VAT/GST, Withholding taxes and other indirect taxes. Manage and facilitate indirect tax related audits and projects: preparing responses, creating schedules, reviewing memos, etc. Develop and implement strategic tax planning for all necessary indirect and international taxes. Plan for and develop overall return calendar and coordinate timing and inputs with tax team. Maintain and prepare all general ledger accounts and oversee the preparation and recording of all required tax related filings, journal entries and reconciliations (includes Corporate Taxes). Maintain effective control procedures over all aspects of the tax process. Find and implement opportunities for process improvement in company tax procedures. Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team and create strategies to capitalize on changes to taxation legislation. We're Looking For Someone Who Has Extensive corporate tax knowledge, familiar with International Taxes, local and indirect taxes (both US and Internationally) Strong knowledge of tax code, compliance and procedures for corporations. Familiarity with Indirect taxes - U.S. and Internationally. Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. The Tax Manager must be proficient with the following software/tools: ◦ Strong skills and experience with Word, Excel. Preferred candidates have a current CPA license and a master’s degree in an accounting/tax discipline. We are looking for a candidate with 5+ years of experience in indirect tax manager or public accountant role. Compensation The amount listed below is the total target cash compensation (TTCC) and includes base compensation and variable compensation in the form of either a company bonus or commissions. Variable compensation type is determined by your role and level. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level and are benchmarked to the SF Bay Area Technology data cut released by Radford, a global compensation database. The range displayed represents the minimum and maximum TTCC for new hire salaries for the position across all of our US locations. Within the range, individual pay is determined by experience, job-related skills, qualifications, and other factors.
