Leave of Absence & Payroll Specialist About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and employee-focused Leave of Absence & Payroll Specialist to join our People Operations team. In this role, you will support end-to-end leave administration and assist with accurate, compliant payroll processing for our U.S. and Canadian workforce. You will play a key role in delivering a positive employee experience while ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position is ideal for someone early to mid-career who thrives in a remote-first, fast-paced SaaS environment and enjoys working at the intersection of compliance, systems, and employee support. Key Responsibilities Leave of Absence Administration Administer employee leave programs, including FMLA, CFRA, ADA accommodations, military leave, parental leave, paid sick leave, and other state-specific leave programs Serve as the primary point of contact for employee leave-related questions, processes, and documentation Partner with third-party leave administrators and insurance carriers (STD, LTD, Paid Family Leave) to support accurate and timely leave processing Track leave usage, eligibility, and return-to-work status, ensuring complete and compliant documentation Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local leave laws across multiple jurisdictions Collaborate with HR Business Partners and managers to support employees before, during, and after leaves of absence Payroll Support Support semi-monthly U.S. payroll processing with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Review payroll inputs for accuracy, including timekeeping, deductions, benefits, garnishments, and leave-related pay Assist with payroll adjustments related to leaves of absence, retroactive pay, and off-cycle payments Support payroll audits, reconciliations, and quarter- and year-end activities (e.g., W-2s, state filings) Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Benefits, and HRIS teams to ensure data integrity across systems Systems & Compliance Maintain accurate employee data within HRIS, payroll, and timekeeping systems Document and continuously improve leave and payroll processes to support scalability in a SaaS environment Stay informed on changes to employment, leave, and wage & hour laws and proactively recommend updates Support internal and external audits as needed Required Qualifications 3+ years of experience supporting payroll and/or leave of absence administration for U.S. employees Working knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and multi-state leave laws Experience supporting U.S. payroll in a multi-state environment Familiarity with HRIS and payroll systems (e.g., Workday, ADP, Rippling, Paylocity, UKG, or similar) Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in a remote work environment Preferred Qualifications Experience in a SaaS or high-growth technology company Experience partnering with third-party leave administrators Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) or FMLA/Leave certification Experience with process improvement, automation, or HR systems implementations Mitratech is proud to be an EEOE, M/F/D/V, and we are committed to diversity both in practice and spirit at the corporate level.
