Full Description

SUMMARY The Operations Director is responsible for the effective functioning of MREA, overseeing the organization's governance, finances, and day-to-day operations. This role directly supports the Board of Directors and the Executive Director while managing administrative, financial, membership, and human resources systems. The Operations Director is central to ensuring compliance, improving member engagement, and driving organizational excellence through efficient operations and collaborative leadership with the full MREA Team. RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Governance Management 1.1. Coordinate board meetings, agendas, minutes, and communications. 1.2. Coordinate board Committee meetings, agendas, minutes, and communications. 1.3. Manage board elections and onboarding of new board members. 1.4. Assist Board with Executive Director evaluation. 1.5. Assist Executive Director and board in strategic planning and policy development. 2. Administrative and Operational Management 2.1. Ensure legal and business compliance (e.g., lobbying reports, insurance, contracts). 2.2. Manage office operations, records, equipment, and outsourced services. 2.3. Maintain digital and physical security of organizational assets. 2.4. Manage IT systems, software, and data security. 2.5. Maintain inventory of digital and physical tech assets. 3. Membership, Sponsorship, and Communications 3.1. Assist in member and sponsor recruitment, retention, and renewals. 3.2. Manage and maintain membership and communication databases and use databases, phone, email and other means to communicate transactional matters with members and others. 3.3. Manage member and sponsor benefit delivery. 3.4. Integrate and manage the membership and financial aspects of award programs and events such as the Summit (Annual Conference) and Future Educators Workshop (FEW). 3.5 Occasionally assist with website updates, eblasts, and promotional materials. 3.6. Comply with consistent branding and messaging across platforms. 4. Financial Management and Shared Leadership 4.1. Coordinate, prepare and manage budgets, accounting, and financial reporting. 4.2. Ensure accurate and timely tax filings (Form 990, 5500) and manage audits. 4.3. Manage accounts payable/receivable, cash management and vendor relations. 4.4. Maintain fiduciary responsibilities re: bank accounts and investments. 4.5. Supervise bookkeeping and maintain financial procedures and records. 5. Human Resources 5.1. Administer payroll, benefits, and compliance and coordinate with service providers. 5.2. Maintain personnel records and policies. 5.3. Support hiring, onboarding, and staff development. 6. Other duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS • Bachelor’s degree; 5–7 years in admin/operations or nonprofit management. • Strong communication, organizational, and financial skills. • Proficient in office software, databases, and digital tools. • Ability to manage multiple projects and work independently. WORK ENVIRONMENT • Office-based with hybrid option and occasional travel. • Requires computer use, lifting materials, and in-person board meeting and event presence and support. Note: while the current MREA Office is in in St. Cloud, it has been in different MN cities/towns previously, and MREA is open to moving the office within Minnesota to be convenient for the successful candidate.
