We are seeking a driven Outside Sales / Business Development Representative to expand our presence in the Illinois and Michigan markets. You will play a key role in identifying new opportunities, building strong customer relationships, and helping organizations move critical freight with confidence. Position Overview The Outside Sales Representative is responsible for driving profitable growth by developing new business and expanding existing accounts within the assigned territory. The role requires a proactive approach to prospecting, strong relationship-building skills, and the ability to collaborate closely with operations to deliver solutions that meet customer requirements. Key Responsibilities Business Development • Identify and pursue new opportunities through targeted prospecting, networking, and in-person customer engagement • Develop strategic relationships with manufacturers, construction firms, energy providers, and other industries requiring specialized transportation Client Relationship Management • Build long-term partnerships with customers by understanding their logistics challenges and delivering dependable transportation solutions • Maintain consistent communication to ensure satisfaction and uncover opportunities for expanded service Sales Pipeline Management • Qualify leads, conduct virtual and in-person meetings, prepare proposals, and close new business opportunities • Maintain accurate records of activity, opportunities, and forecasts within the CRM system Industry & Market Awareness • Maintain strong knowledge of specialized transportation services including oversized, overweight, and open deck freight • Monitor market conditions, industry trends, and competitor activity to support effective sales strategies Internal Collaboration • Work closely with Miller Transfer’s operations and logistics teams to ensure service excellence and successful project execution • Share market intelligence and customer insights to support ongoing business growth Qualifications • Minimum 2+ years of outside sales experience • Experience in transportation, logistics, or open deck / heavy haul freight preferred • Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills • Self-motivated and goal-oriented with the ability to work independently while collaborating with internal teams • Experience using CRM systems to manage pipeline activity and customer engagement • Excellent time management and organizational skills for balancing field visits and remote work • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field preferred Compensation & Benefits • Competitive base salary with performance-based incentive program • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance • 401(k) retirement plan with company match • Opportunities for professional growth within a respected and expanding transportation organization If you’re ready to help customers move complex freight with confidence while building long-term partnerships, we invite you to join the Miller Transfer team.
