Lead and manage social media and texting teams, develop and implement strategies, oversee client accounts and budgets, and drive business development.
Minimum 1 year management experience, 5 years professional social media and/or peer-to-peer texting strategy experience for political clients, excellent communication, leadership, and client management skills.
The successful applicant will lead our social media & texting teams, managing digital strategists to the highest of standards of quality and efficiency. This person must have prior management experience, a background in social media management, a background in peer-to-peer and broadcast text messaging, excellent communication skills, strong accountability for team success, and a proven track record in client management. This role is not a part of the union bargaining unit. Team Management • Accountable for a team of social media & texting strategists • Delegate, train, and provide feedback for your team members toward • Managing, maintaining, improving, and optimizing client social media accounts and text messaging programs • Crafting and implementing social media and texting strategies • Developing timely, accurate, and tailored systems of reporting to convey performance to clients • Maintaining a responsive posting schedule attuned to breaking news and significant events • Researching issues relevant to our clients in order to identify salient topics and content • Producing compelling, on-brand graphics to accompany social media content • Engaging in rigorous and regular testing across types of message, media on messages, landing pages, and creative • Manage a team budget for overhead and staffing, with guidance and oversight of the controller • Guide team members to identify and work toward professional development goals, including: • Providing periodic performance reviews for all staff • Providing ongoing feedback and performance management • Implementing comprehensive onboarding and owning training process • Engaging in continuous training for team members with the latest industry knowledge and best practices • Train new managers within the department • Manage department meetings, define and communicate team goals, and keep team informed about company-wide processes, policies, and priorities • Act as ambassador for the department to other teams • Other responsibilities as requested Client Work • Establish and oversee best practices, systems, and processes for the social media and texting team team that: • Meets high standards for innovation, accessibility, communication, collaboration, and efficiency • Delivers work to clients on time and of an exceptional quality • And incorporates feedback from and delegates to managers on the team • Step in to provide strategic support for staff and solutions to clients as needed • Serve as first touch point for new Social Media or Texting clients, ensuring their onboarding is set up for success • Serve as a backup for direct reports and provide client coverage as needed • Remain plugged in to political news, overall trends in progressive politics, and social media & fundraising trends • Managing and interfacing with clients directly (potentially including Members of Congress, Senators, and other major figures) • Develop systems of reporting to convey social media and texting performance to clients • Work with comptroller and staff to oversee texting budgeting, including providing checks on invoices for P2P per text, maintaining a flawless texting escrow, and ensuring product lines are paid correctly • Provide constructive feedback and creative direction to social media team members to ensure that best practices are maintained • Oversee the firm's social media accounts and delegates to ensure content is generated for those accounts • Manage vendor relationships for social platforms, broadcast platforms, and mobile number brokers and manage documentation on vendor offerings • Other responsibilities as requested Business Development • Pitch prospective clients (and upsell existing clients) on social media and texting work • Attend new business meetings to assess needs, budget, and fit for potential social media retainers, texting products, and projects • Oversee P2P list rental programs through internal Middle Seat products • Develop strategies for packaging social media and texting services to clients, expanding to new services (i.e. influencers, P2P list rentals, etc.) with the help of management when appropriate • Onboard new clients and provide team members with relevant information and guidance to execute new work • Work collaboratively with leadership team members on full-service proposals when needed • Ensure sales and marketing materials for social media and texting work are maintained in adherence with established company processes • Provide final check on social and texting scopes of work and pricing • Other responsibilities as requested Requirements • Minimum 1 year experience managing • Minimum 5 years experience in professional social media and/or peer-to-peer texting strategy for political clients • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Demonstrated aptitude in leadership, management, and collaboration • Strong organizational and time management skills • Excellent attention to detail • Curiosity as it relates to the social media discipline, as well as media and fundraising work • Ability to manage clients autonomously • Ability to write for various social media platforms • Writing is almost entirely free of errors • Ability to adeptly adapt writing to conform to client voices and perspectives • A desire to play a leading strategic role in social media for major political campaigns, nonprofits, and causes • A desire to play a leading strategic role
