Full Description

Overview Are you driven by curiosity and excited about emerging technology? Do you enjoy tinkering, exploring how things work, and turning ideas into tangible product experiences? If you like bringing concepts to life through thoughtful design, compelling storytelling, and early prototypes, this role is for you. The Core UX and Content Design (CXCD) design team is looking for a Product Designer II who sweats the details and can also zoom out to shape the product personality and visual direction across our product portfolio. You’ll bring exceptional visual craft, strong creative direction instincts, and design systems thinking to help us build cohesive, polished, and scalable experiences, especially as our products evolve toward AI-first and agentic interaction models. We hold a high bar for design discipline, using rapid prototyping, experimentation, and AI-accelerated tools to explore possibilities quickly, while applying strong judgment to converge on experiences that are intentional, trustworthy, and production ready. You’ll leverage AI as a creative thinker in the prototyping process to move from concept to validated direction faster, without compromising craft or quality. This role blends hands-on making (high-fidelity UI leveraging Fluent Design System and Agent framework, motion cues, and visual storytelling) with systems leadership (patterns, components, guidance, and implementation fidelity). You’ll partner closely with product designers, visual and motion designers, content designers, engineers, researchers, and product managers to ensure what ships is beautiful, coherent, and valued by customers as you bring together design fundamentals, technical curiosity, and creative experimentation. You are comfortable shaping interactions in Figma, prototyping concepts, and exploring how AI can transform workflows and user experiences. Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond. Responsibilities Create and articulate high‑fidelity visual design grounded in the Microsoft Fluent Design System, exploring multiple directions, defining clear visual intent, and delivering polished UI, prototypes, and presentations that align teams around a cohesive, high‑quality outcome. Define, evolve, and maintain scalable visual patterns, components, and guidelines—partnering closely with design system stakeholders to ensure coherence, strong library hygiene (naming, variants, tokens), and well‑documented, handoff‑ready artifacts that enable engineering to build with confidence. Shape how AI shows up visually across the system by defining clear AI affordances, feedback, and guidance while contributing to shared design systems and agent frameworks, and partnering closely with CXCD, design, and product teams to protect design integrity through implementation, pixel‑level precision, and pragmatic tradeoffs. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design, OR equivalent experience. Additional Requirements: Resume must include a link to design portfolio. Preferred Qualifications: Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design; OR Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 3+ years experience working in product or service design; OR equivalent experience (e.g., demonstrated experience working in product or service design or using design thinking to solve problems) Experience designing and prototyping in Figma. 2+ years experience shipping products to customers as a result of an end-to-end design process. Experience that demonstrates proven ability to advocate for design thinking, effectively influence design outcomes, discover problems and tackle them in fast-paced environments. #design #productdesign #ux #ui #uiux #visualcommunication #uidesign #aidesign #microsoftdesign #DPG #DPGHiring Product Design IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year.
