Position Summary The Medical Assistant provides support to the physician, physician extender and the patient for patient care services. Collaborates with physicians, physician extender and all other clinical staff to optimize a positive patient experience, improve efficiency and work flow. The Medical Assistant is an advocate on behalf of the practice and the patient with outside healthcare facilities and ancillary agencies involving the patient’s care, required services, durable medical equipment and the patient insurance carrier. Duties and Responsibilities • Direct patients to examination rooms during clinic days to ensure efficient patient flow. • Ensure examination rooms are cleaned and stocked between patients, and thoroughly cleaned and restocked at the end of each day. • Collect specimens, sterilize instruments as needed, and remove staples, sutures, and external fixation devices as directed by the physician. • Assist the physician with various procedures as required. • Interview patients, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and accurately record this information in patient charts. • Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations. • Clean and sterilize medical instruments. • Draw injections, administer treatments, and perform routine laboratory tests. • Enter patient and office data into computer systems to maintain accurate records. • Apply and remove casts, splints, and dressings as ordered by the physician. Prepare and fit orthopedic bracing devices and durable medical equipment (DME). • Instruct patients on the care and management of casts, splints, dressings, and DME. • Monitor and respond to patient messages effectively. • Provide support on the clinical phone line for all patient-related clinical inquiries • Perform other tasks as assigned to support the smooth operation of the clinic.
