The Technician should have intermediate knowledge in at least one of these fields and follow established guidelines to complete tasks. While primary functions are performed independently, technical assistance from senior staff may be required. What you will be doing: • Ability to work in 365x24x7 environment including weekend and night shifts. • Constant monitoring of Network Management systems for alarms on the Network. • Analyze and determine impact of alarms to the Metronet Network and customer base. • Report, document, and track all alarm events while maintaining a high level of accuracy and urgency. • Create and triage trouble tickets, including remote RFC and BER testing. • Create, assign and coordinate trouble tickets to the correct internal workgroups for customer and network troubles. • Communicate Network Event Notification alerts and updates to internal Metronet teams and executives. • Coordinate and drive repair activities on fiber cuts and other network impacting events. • Direct involvement with engineering groups and vendors to track and implement restoration efforts. • Updates trouble tickets, escalating to various carriers and workgroups as required until completion. • Work escalations from other NOC Tiers and Metronet departments. • Properly document Root Cause Actions and dispositions during ticket closure. • Perform inbound and outbound contact center duties in a high-volume environment. • Communicates daily with many departments within METRONET, other telecommunication providers and vendors to discuss and coordinate all network troubles/outages and projects. This may involve exchanging information on the installation, testing and turn-up of circuits/facilities and network elements (fiber transport, switching networks, etc). • All other duties as assigned. What you need for this position: • 3-5+ years’ experience working in NOC environment in the Telecom industry. • 2-3 years dealing and communications with other Carrier NOCs to accomplish the team’s objectives. • Cisco CCNA or Equivalent Certification preferred. • Associates degree or higher or equivalent experience preferred. • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with an eagerness to provide outstanding customer service to internal and external clients. • Demonstrable knowledge of the following IP protocols: BGP, OSPF, MPLS, Spanning Tree, ISIS. • Demonstrable knowledge of the following platforms: Cisco, Nokia, Telabs, Adtran, Metaswitch VoIP/ SIP Softswitch and Session Border Controller and others. • Ability to troubleshoot Layer 1-3 faults in platforms listed. • Demonstrable knowledge of various network troubleshooting tools such as, but not limited to: ping, traceroute, telnet, ssh, dig, SNMP get. • Ability to configure and troubleshoot issues with: LDP, VRF, VPN, L2TP, SIP. • Understanding of SNMP traps and syslog messaging with the ability to react to and perform fault analysis for various messages. • Ability to acknowledge multiple network alerts and messages and determine customer and/or network impact as a result of symptoms presented. • Ability to read and interpret engineering documents such as Methods of Procedures and Work Orders for scheduled maintenances. • Requires computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, SharePoint and Lotus Notes. • Must be able to work independently with minimal guidance, while focusing on a sense of urgency for customer impacting issues. • Must be able to work beyond the normal shift during outages and when working on special projects. • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
