Role Description This role involves shaping how the engineering team at Mercury operates. You will partner closely with the VP of Engineering and engineering leadership to ensure operational excellence. • Drive the planning and execution of strategic initiatives across Engineering, covering hiring, onboarding, metrics, budgeting, and tooling. • Design and execute programs to enable and expand AI adoption for coding assistance and in-product features. • Partner with the Strategic Operations team to improve core processes like planning cycles and incident management. • Act as orchestrator for department-wide initiatives such as tech debt paydown projects and architectural investments. • Build an environment of operational excellence using data, context, and collaboration. Example projects include: • Coordinate an org-wide technical infrastructure upgrade. • Incorporate AI-related skills in our leveling guide. • Identify an efficient path to consistent project reporting while preserving team autonomy. Qualifications • 6+ years of experience in Engineering Operations, Technical Program Management, Engineering Chief of Staff, or adjacent leadership positions in a fast-paced tech company. • Experience managing complex engineering programs and initiatives at scale, and measuring impact through data. • Experience bringing structure to ambiguity and managing through influence. • Thoughtful systems thinking with the ability to engage with details as needed. • Clear and careful communication skills. Requirements • Background in software engineering (bonus). • Experience shaping Engineering-wide or company-wide strategy through operational leadership (bonus). • Experience navigating fintech, banking, or other regulated, security-sensitive environments (bonus). Benefits • Competitive base salary and equity (stock options). • Salary ranges for US employees: $239,000 - 298,900 USD. • Salary ranges for Canadian employees: CAD 225,900 - 282,400.
