Contact patients to collect outstanding balances, post payments, update patient financial information in EMR, provide payment plan options, and ensure compliance with privacy and organizational standards.
High school diploma preferred, 2 years customer service experience, familiarity with medical terminology and Microsoft Office, ability to handle patient financial inquiries, and adherence to HIPAA and organizational policies.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES: Supervisory-Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, and Responsibilities: o N/A Position-Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, and Responsibilities: • Call, send electronic messages, and send letters to patients with outstanding balances in effort to make collections. • Greeting patients over the phone in a friendly and courteous manner. • Ability to work with all members of the financial team to assist with patients accounts. • Efficiently verifying mailing address, contact phone number, insurance and other demographic information. • Evaluates patient accounts for Bad debt status, reaches out to patient to set up payment plans. • General understanding of Patient Accounts to help patient understand bills and insurance payments. • Analyze financials and establish payment arrangements on high dollar deductible plans, co-pays and self-pay accounts. • Effectively, navigate EMR to find proper documentation and forms. • Accurately update patient’s information in EMR system. • Must meet established productivity and quality guidelines. • Provides estimated quotes for prompt pay discount or time of service discount. • Post cash and credit card payments. • Answer incoming phone calls from patients, physicians and other sources related to financial questions. • Correctly and professionally document financials and patient interactions within EMR for financial clearance and counseling. • Handle complaints, provide appropriate solutions and alternatives within the time limits and follow up to ensure resolution. • Attends all applicable workshops • Responsible to monitor supervisor directed indicators. • Train others in department when needed. • Follow communication, expectations, and guidelines and polices. • Follow CHOICE Behavioral Standards. • Protects patient privacy during direct contact, follows HIPAA standards for guarding PHI. • Performs other duties as assigned. • Organization-Specific Performance Expectations, Duties, and Responsibilities: • Demonstrates 100% commitment to performance in accordance with the CHOICE values of MRH and representing the organization in a positive and professional manner. • Establishes and maintains effective verbal and written communication and good working relationships with all patients, staff, and vendors. • Adheres to MRH attire/dress code per policies and procedures. • Utilizes initiative; strives to maintain a steady level of productivity; self-motivated; and manages activity and time. • Completes annual education, training, in-service, and licensure/certification requirements; and attends departmental and organizational staff meetings or reads meeting minutes. • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times. • Reports to work on time as scheduled; completes work within designated timeframes. • Actively participates in departmental and organizational performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities. • Strives to uphold regulatory requirements to ensure continual compliance with departmental, hospital, state, and federal regulations and policies. • Follows policies and procedures for infection control, safety, and risk management to ensure a safe environment for patients, the public, and staff. QUALIFICATIONS: Minimum Requirements: • Must be at least 16 years of age (21 for driving positions with a valid driver’s license) • Must be able to legally work in the United States. • Must be able to pass a background check. • Must be able to pass a drug screening and breath alcohol test (if applicable) • Must complete employee health meeting. • 2 years of Customer Service related experience.
