Position: Clinical Research Financial Analyst Location: NYC (hybrid schedule: onsite 3 days a week) Duration: 6 month Contract to hire Position Summary The Financial Analyst supports financial reporting, analysis, and budgeting for a defined group of departments within the health system, with a strong focus on clinical, research, and education operations. This role partners closely with departmental leadership while reporting into Central Finance, serving as a key liaison between finance, department administrators, faculty, and operational stakeholders. This is a hands-on role suited for someone who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and being involved in multiple aspects of finance beyond standard reporting. Key Responsibilities • Monitor departmental budgets on a monthly basis, ensuring accuracy and performing variance and trend analysis against budget and prior periods • Prepare financial reports, templates, and summaries for department and finance leadership • Assist with forecasting, including year-to-date performance against full-year budgets • Support annual budgeting processes through historical analysis and future projections • Review and investigate financial transactions, book journal entries, and ensure alignment with accounting standards • Ensure appropriate and compliant use of funding sources, including operating funds and philanthropy • Act as a financial liaison between departments, central finance, vendors, and other internal stakeholders • Support transactional finance needs and follow up with vendors as required • Provide ad hoc financial analysis and support special projects as requested • Help identify reporting gaps, data issues, and process improvement opportunities • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Finance, Research, Academic Affairs, Hospital Finance, and IT What They Are Looking For • 3–4 years of experience as a Financial Analyst • Experience supporting departmental financial reporting, ideally within an academic medical center or healthcare environment such as Pediatrics • Comfort working with stakeholders and vendors outside of routine reporting responsibilities • Someone who enjoys variety and does not want to do the same task every day • A proactive, go-getter mindset with interest in being involved across multiple finance functions Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience • At least 2 years of relevant financial experience • Strong understanding of budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting, including P&L statements • Advanced Excel skills and strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office • Clear verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work across diverse teams Preferred Qualifications • Experience with enterprise financial systems such as PeopleSoft or Oracle • Healthcare, academic, or research finance experience Additional Skills & Attributes • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail • Self-starter who takes ownership of work and follows through • Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills Job Type: Full-time Pay: $80,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year Benefits: • Dental insurance • Health insurance • Vision insurance Application Question(s): • Do you have experience with clinical research or trial finance?
