The Medical Assistant supports physicians and clinical staff in a pain management setting by providing high-quality patient care, assisting with procedures, and ensuring efficient clinical operations. This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patients experiencing chronic pain. Duties/Responsibilities • Clinical Support • Prepare patients for examinations, procedures, and injections (e.g., epidural steroid injections, trigger point injections) • Obtain and document vital signs, pain scores, medical histories, and medication lists • Assist providers during in-office pain management procedures • Perform injections, EKGs, phlebotomy, and wound care as permitted by scope of practice • Set up and clean procedure rooms following infection control standards • Sterilize instruments and maintain clinical supplies • Medication & Compliance • Review and reconcile medications, including controlled substances • Assist with urine drug screens and chain-of-custody documentation • Support compliance with pain management protocols and regulatory requirements • Educate patients on treatment plans, post-procedure care, and medication instructions • Administrative & Documentation • Accurately document patient interactions and procedures in the EHR • Assist with prior authorizations, referrals, and procedure scheduling • Coordinate follow-up appointments and diagnostic testing • Maintain accurate and confidential patient records in compliance with HIPAA • Patient Care & Communication • Provide compassionate, respectful care to patients experiencing chronic pain • Address patient questions and concerns professionally and empathetically • Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, and care teams • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; medical office or billing coursework preferred. • Experience: Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office setting, preferably in pain management, orthopedics, or physical medicine. • Skills and Abilities: • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. • Strong attention to detail and accuracy. • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) and Microsoft Office applications. • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a busy clinical environment. • Compassionate and professional demeanor when interacting with patients in pain. • Working knowledge of medical terminology, insurance processes, and HIPAA compliance.
