Role: Senior Backend Software Engineer - Distributed Systems / Engineering Enablement We are hiring a senior backend engineer to focus on distributed systems, scalability, reliability, and observability-not backend product features. This is a high-impact role supporting a mission-critical, AI-driven healthcare platform that processes millions of conversations every month. Location & Compensation: • San Francisco or New York City (hybrid, minimum 3 days onsite) • Base salary: $211K-$248K, plus generous equity and benefits • Location requirement is non-negotiable What you'll do: • Improve application-level reliability and system scalability • Significantly reduce latency using observability and profiling tools • Scale compute-heavy services running on Kubernetes • Solve platform and infrastructure challenges at large scale • Enable other engineers by improving system performance and internal tooling Requirements (non-negotiable): • 5-10 years of software engineering experience • 2+ years focused on backend performance, scalability, or infrastructure • Strong experience with distributed systems • Proven success improving reliability and reducing latency • Production experience scaling services on Kubernetes • Experience with a major cloud provider (GCP preferred) • Strong Python and/or TypeScript skills • Hands-on monitoring/observability experience (Datadog, Grafana) • Background in big tech or hypergrowth startup environments This role is ideal for engineers who enjoy solving deep infrastructure problems and enabling high-performing engineering teams at scale.
