You will work from Mastercard’s technology hub in a collaborative, Agile environment alongside talented engineers, product managers, technical program managers, and test engineers. You will play an important role in helping Mastercard transform the B2B payments space by standardizing, automating, and optimizing payment experiences for buyers and sellers around the world. This is a hybrid role based in Arlington, VA, requiring three days per week onsite. Role: • Design, develop, and evolve secure, scalable Java/Spring Boot microservices and APIs supporting Mastercard’s global B2B platform. • Translate business and product requirements into reliable, maintainable technical solutions, contributing to system architecture and technical design. • Build and integrate services across Angular applications, databases, internal platforms, and third-party systems, including efficient SQL and database solutions for high-volume workloads. • Apply AI-assisted development tools to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, documentation, code reviews, and software quality improvements, with appropriate human oversight. • Develop solutions that meet Mastercard standards for security, performance, scalability, reliability, and operational excellence, applying enterprise security patterns such as authentication, authorization, encryption, and secrets management. • Apply 12-factor application principles, cloud-native practices, and Mastercard engineering governance throughout the development lifecycle. • Participate in code reviews, Pull Requests, retrospectives, and technical discussions, contributing to high-quality engineering practices and continuous improvement. • Collaborate with Software Engineers, Test Engineers, Product Managers, Technical Program Managers, and other stakeholders to deliver customer-focused solutions. • Troubleshoot complex production and performance issues, improve system reliability, and mentor engineers by sharing technical knowledge and best practices. All About You: • Extensive experience designing and developing Java applications, Spring Boot services, RESTful APIs, and microservices in enterprise environments. • Strong understanding of microservice architecture, distributed systems, API design, and cloud-native development practices. • Experience using AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity and software quality across coding, refactoring, testing, debugging, documentation, and delivery. • Practical experience applying AI-assisted capabilities to code reviews, security and vulnerability analysis, dependency management, and automated testing, with sound engineering judgment and human review for production changes. • Strong SQL and database development skills with technologies such as PostgreSQL or Oracle, including experience designing and optimizing solutions for high-volume transactional systems. • Strong knowledge of enterprise application security, including OAuth, mutual TLS, authorization, payload encryption, secrets management, and secure coding practices. • Experience diagnosing and improving application performance, scalability, reliability, and resiliency in production environments. • Understanding of software engineering best practices including automated testing, CI/CD, Git-based development, code reviews, observability, and operational readiness. • Ability to translate complex product and business requirements into secure, testable, maintainable, and supportable technical solutions. • Demonstrated ability to operate effectively in an Agile engineering environment, contributing to continuous improvement and collaborative technical decision-making. • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and make thoughtful technical decisions with minimal supervision. • Passion for delivering high-quality software and continuously improving engineering practices, products, and customer experiences. • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts and influence decisions across technical and non-technical audiences. • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent practical experience.
