The Manager of Data Analytics will oversee projects and strategies related to data at the MLSC, including data generation, strategy development, and programmatic performance metrics. Candidates should have a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and at least three years of relevant experience. Foundational knowledge of program/investment analytics and experience with data visualization tools are also required.
GENERAL SUMMARY The Massachusetts Life Sciences Center (MLSC) is an economic development and investment agency with a mission of supporting the growth and development of the life sciences in Massachusetts. The MLSC’s mission is to serve as the hub of the world’s life sciences ecosystem, encourage innovation through investments in good science and business, strengthen and protect Massachusetts’ global leadership position in the life sciences, accelerate the commercialization of promising treatments, therapies, and cures that will improve patient care and create jobs, drive economic development and workforce development. Under the direct supervision of the Chief Financial Officer, the Manager of Data Analytics will be responsible for overseeing projects and strategies related to data at the MLSC. This will include data generation in partnership with program teams, data strategy development, project management, cross-team engagement, programmatic performance metrics and data maintenance/governance. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS The ideal candidate has strong analytical, communication, and time management skills, along with being a critical and creative thinker. Specifically, the Manager of Data Analytics will perform the following tasks: • Collaborates with program teams to gather requirements, identify data sources, and deliver data-driven reports and dashboards in support of organization-wide and program-specific objectives. • Develops data storytelling strategies that align with the organization’s mission and vision. • Develops and implements tools and processes for collecting data, ensuring comprehensive datasets while identifying and addressing any missing data points to support impact measurement. • Ensures data accuracy and integrity within the data sources, which may involve confirmation from secondary sources. • Develops and enhances the data warehouse; oversees back-end transaction/data processing. • Identifies, examines, and deciphers trends or patterns. Thinks creatively about how disparate data may be grouped to tell a story. • Presents data findings and impact metrics in clear, engaging visual formats for internal teams and external stakeholders. • Participates in special projects as assigned including preparation of ad hoc analyses, detailed information requests, as well as other fiscal projects and/or tasks including those related to government agencies and legislative offices. • Balances long-term projects with short-term demands with tight deadlines. PREPARATION, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Statistics, Math, Information Design, Data Visualization, or an equivalent discipline; three years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience in a related field. • Foundational knowledge of program/investment analytics principles and practices. • Experience working with relational databases, data modeling, and data warehousing concepts. • Experienced with data visualization tools and techniques. • Experience assessing the relevance and limitations of data-based metrics on evaluating progress toward strategic objectives. • Experience with any of the following is highly desirable: Airtable, NetSuite, Salesforce, SurveyMonkey and SmartSimple. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY There are no direct supervisory responsibilities with this position at this time; this position will collaborate with all other departments and may also work with interns or co-ops. WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS • Typical office environment with work frequently done on a monitor or physical paperwork, with telephone, video, and in-person conversations. • Mostly sedentary work, requiring the ability to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects up to 10 pounds. • Work is typically done sitting down and involves frequent keyboard use. SALARY: $90,000 per year
