Senior Security Specialist - Data Protection & Encryption Company: Private Contractor Employment Type: Full-Time, Remote Security Clearance: Regional Clearance Required Location Requirements: New York Metropolitan Area, Europe, Japan, or South Africa Position Overview We are seeking an experienced Senior Security Specialist to join our cybersecurity team in supporting critical defense and intelligence operations. This role requires expertise in military-grade encryption, advanced data wiping protocols, and comprehensive security architecture design. The successful candidate will work remotely while supporting high-stakes projects that protect national security interests and organizational assets. Key Responsibilities Data Protection & Encryption: • Implement and manage military-grade encryption and decryption systems using AES-256, RSA, ECC, and emerging post-quantum cryptographic standards • Design and execute advanced data wiping procedures following NIST 800-88 Rev. 1, IEEE 2883, and DoD 5220.22-M standards • Perform secure data encoding, sanitization, and destruction across various storage media including SSDs, traditional hard drives, and specialized military hardware Security Architecture & Operations: • Design, implement, and maintain comprehensive security solutions that protect organizational assets and sensitive intelligence data • Monitor networks for security breaches, analyze network traffic, and respond to cyber incidents and network operation failures • Install and manage firewalls, data encryption programs, and other network defense technologies • Support Zero Trust implementation across identity, data, applications, and infrastructure domains Compliance & Risk Management: • Ensure compliance with data protection regulations including HIPAA, GDPR, and federal security standards • Conduct security vulnerability assessments using appropriate tools and methodologies • Develop and maintain security policies, procedures, and incident response protocols • Participate in cyberattack response teams and provide forensic analysis capabilities Required Qualifications Education & Certifications: • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related STEM field • Must hold at least one of the following certifications: CISSP, CISA, or CISM • Additional certifications in SSCP, CEH, or GCIH preferred Security Clearance: • Active Regional Security Clearance required (Secret minimum, Top Secret preferred) • Ability to pass comprehensive background investigation and maintain clearance standards • EU SECRET clearance acceptable for European candidates Technical Expertise: • Minimum 5 years experience with military-grade encryption/decryption technologies • Expert knowledge of advanced data wiping standards (NIST 800-88, IEEE 2883, DoD 5220.22-M) • Proficiency in cryptographic protocols including AES, RSA, ECC, ChaCha20-Poly1305 • Experience with secure coding practices, penetration testing, and forensic analysis • Knowledge of network security, incident response, and threat analysis methodologies Professional Skills: • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities for complex security challenges • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for technical documentation and briefings • Ability to work independently in remote environment while maintaining strict confidentiality • Experience with risk management, compliance frameworks, and security governance Geographic Requirements Candidates must be permanently located in one of the following regions: • New York Metropolitan Area (tri-state region) • Europe (Germany, Belgium, or other EU member states) • Japan • South Africa Remote work is authorized within these geographic boundaries. Compensation & Benefits Salary Range: $135,000 - $185,000 annually Maximum Compensation: $275,000 annually (including all premiums and bonuses) Premium Adjustments: • Regional Security Clearance: +$15,000 - $25,000 • Military-Grade Encryption Expertise: +$10,000 - $20,000 • Advanced Data Wiping Specialization: +$8,000 - $15,000 • Geographic Premium (NY Metro/Europe/Japan): +$12,000 - $18,000 Additional Benefits: • Security clearance maintenance bonus: $8,000 - $12,000 annually • Certification maintenance reimbursement: $5,000 annually • Performance bonuses: 15-25% of base salary • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance • Professional development and training budget • Flexible remote work arrangements within approved geographic areas Hourly Equivalent: $65 - $132 per hour (based on full-time schedule) Note: This position requires working with classified information and sensitive defense technologies.
