The Software Quality Assurance Engineer will lead and support quality assurance activities for software under DO-178C, ensuring compliance with certification standards. They will also define and maintain software quality processes and perform audits and reviews throughout the software development lifecycle.
Candidates must have a Bachelor's or Master's degree in a relevant field and at least 5 years of experience in software quality assurance for safety-critical systems. A strong understanding of DO-178B/C and experience with software development and verification tools are also required.
Role Overview As a DO-178 Software Quality Assurance (SQA) Engineer at Lynx, you will be responsible for ensuring that our software development processes and deliverables meet DO-178 certification standards. You will work closely with software engineers, certification authorities, and project leads to plan, execute, and audit quality activities across the software development lifecycle. You’ll help shape Lynx’s software quality processes, tools, and culture to scale reliably, safely, and efficiently. Key Responsibilities Lead or support Quality Assurance and Process Assurance activities for software under DO-178C. Define, establish, and maintain software quality processes aligned with DO-178, as well as other applicable standards (e.g. ARP4754, ISO 9001, AS9100, ISO/IEC 61508, etc.). Create, review, and maintain quality artifacts, deliverables, audits, reviews, inspections, and test documentation. Manage traceability, change control, version control, baselining of requirements, design, implementation, verification (unit, integration, system), and safety artifacts in accordance with DO-178. Perform independent audits and reviews of project deliverables throughout the lifecycle; report findings, non-conformances, and drive corrective and preventive actions. Define and monitor metrics for software quality, process compliance, defect tracking, and process improvement. Interface with certification authorities / safety auditors: prepare and present evidence, participate in audits, respond to audit findings. Evaluate, select, or contribute to tools that support requirements management, test management, traceability, configuration management, static analysis / model checking, tool qualification (if needed). Mentor and coach development teams on best practices in safety critical software, quality assurance, verification, and process adherence. Participate in risk assessments, root-cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, and contribute to continuous improvement of the QA system. Required Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical / Electronics Engineering, or related field. 5+ years in software quality assurance in safety-critical systems, especially DO-178B/C. Strong understanding of software safety standards and guidelines for DO178B/C. Experience with software development and verification tools (requirements management, version control, traceability, test & coverage tools, static analysis). Demonstrated experience with process establishment, audits, non-conformance reporting, and dealing with certification authorities. Good knowledge of configuration management, change control, baseline management. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and root-cause analysis skills. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to prepare high-quality documentation and present findings to multiple stakeholders. Preferred / Desirable Qualifications Experience in avionics, aerospace, defense industries. Familiarity with related safety / security standards (e.g. ISO 26262, IEC 61508, ARP4754, ARP4761). Experience with tool qualification per DO-330 or equivalent. Prior experience working in or with Certification Authorities. Experience mentoring or leading smaller QA / process teams. Sound Exciting?
