Description Job Title: Senior Accountant Department: Finance Reports to: Director of Finance Exemption: Exempt Date Revised: 2026 Position Summary The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing and overseeing key accounting functions including general ledger maintenance, financial reporting, and reconciliations. This role also plays an integral part in budget development, variance analysis, and cash management analysis and reporting. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to provide meaningful financial insights that support management decision-making. Essential Functions General Accounting Prepare and record journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations to ensure accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting. Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring compliance with GAAP and organizational policies. Perform month-end and year-end close processes, including preparation of supporting schedules and analyses. Support internal and external audit processes by providing documentation and explanations as needed. Financial Reporting Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Assist with preparation of management reports summarizing financial results, trends, and key performance indicators (KPIs). Contribute to the preparation of annual financial statements and other regulatory filings as required. Budgeting and Forecasting Assist in the preparation of annual operating budgets and multi-year forecasts in collaboration with department leaders. Monitor budget-to-actual performance and prepare variance analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities. Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial performance and forecast updates. Cash Analysis and Reporting Prepare short-term and long-term cash flow projections. Prepare regular cash flow reports and analysis for management review. Support treasury-related activities as needed. Process Improvement and Internal Controls Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, reporting efficiency, and internal controls. Lead and participate in system upgrades, process automation, and implementation of new financial tools. Special Projects Participate in special projects as requested by leadership. Work Environment Possible exposure to communicable diseases, bloodborne pathogens, airborne illnesses, hazardous materials, pharmacological agents with little likelihood of harm if established health precautions are followed. May, at times, have exposure to blood, packaged organs and tissues for transplant and/or research in a hospital setting or while in the office. Possible mental and visual fatigue associated with detailed work. Physical Demands May require extended periods of sitting. Occasional ascending/descending of stairs. Repeating motions that may include wrists, hands, and/or fingers (i.e. typing). Occasional light lifting or moving of objects up to 20 pounds. Work Hours Full-time position. Typical work hours are Monday-Friday 8:30am to 5:00pm with flex time available at the discretion of the direct supervisor Requirements Education and Experience 3 or more years of progressive accounting experience, including general ledger and financial reporting responsibilities. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred; CPA or progress toward CPA preferred. Equivalent education and/or experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Experience in nonprofit finance and accounting, particularly healthcare, preferred. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial statement preparation. Experience with budgeting, variance analysis, and cash flow analysis. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software (e.g., Sage Intacct, NetSuite, or similar ERP systems). Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to work independently, meet deadlines, and collaborate across departments.
