High school diploma or equivalent, experience in cooking large quantities of food, and certification as required by state.
Job Summary Under general supervision, to assist in operation of a school cafeteria; to cook, prepare, and serve meals, according to established menus and do related work as required. This position is distinguished from the Food Service Worker I position in that it does not include direct responsibility for a school kitchen. Duties • Assist in preparation and serving of meals • Receives and checks storage of food and supplies • Cleans kitchen, kitchen equipment and eating utensils daily • Serves lunch • May sell and take lunch tickets and count them • Count milk, Makes daily report sheet of student count and milk count • Cooperates with teachers and other groups in use of cafeteria facilities for special luncheons and events • May supervise student assistants assigned to work in cafeteria • Cleans, washes and chops, slices and grates food items • Calculates necessary ingredients to prepare food • Assists in preparation of fruits and vegetables for salad bar • Set up serving counter, serve food to students • Operates dishwasher • May wash and put away pots, pans, equipment and utensils • Assist with inventory • Clean work areas including counters, equipment and floors • May disposes of trash and do other related duties as assigned Knowledge & Abilities KNOWLEDGE OF: • Common kitchen appliances, utensils, and measurements • Basic methods of preparing food • Sanitation and safety practices related to cooking, serving and storing foods • Health and safety regulations • Mathematics • Principles and methods of preparing nourishing and appetizing meals for large groups of school children • Proper and sanitary methods of preparing, cooking, serving, and storing food ABILITY TO: • Operate cafeteria appliances • Follow oral and written instructions with a minimum of direction • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others • Operate entry level computer terminal • Prepare and cook food • Keep records and prepare accurate reports • Perform basic math calculations Physical Demands • Visual ability to inspect and read fine print • Hearing and speaking to communicate with others • Standing and walking for extended period of time • Occasional use of ladder and step stool • Dexterity of hands and fingers and eye-hand coordination • Bending and stooping, reaching horizontally, overhead and above shoulders • Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling objects weighing up to 40 lbs. and may lift over 40 lbs. with assistance Education & Experience • Twelfth grade or equivalent of education and experience • Experience in cooking and preparation of large quantities of foodstuffs • Meet state required certification The information contained in this job description is for compliance with the American Disabilities Act (A.D.A.) and is not an exhaustive list of the duties performed for this position.
