Helping our clients, our teams, and our communities create this positive change is our mission, our purpose—our “why.” The Media Director leads the agency’s media strategy, planning, buying, and optimization across all channels, including traditional, digital, and emerging (influencer, podcasts). This role is responsible for developing integrated, data-driven media programs that support client business objectives, overseeing media teams and vendor relationships, and ensuring best-in-class performance, innovation, and efficiency. The Media Director serves as a senior strategic partner to clients, internal LMD teams, and partner agencies, providing thought leadership on media trends, audience targeting, channel mix, and performance measurement while driving growth for both clients and the agency. Supervisory Responsibilities • The Media Director supervises media team members at LMD as needed. • Conduct and support performance reviews for team members and inspire growth by encouraging ongoing professional development. • This role reports to the VP, Account Services. Duties & Responsibilities • Strategic Leadership • * Develop and oversee comprehensive, multi-channel media strategies aligned with client objectives and agency creative direction. • Determine the optimal media mix based on target audiences, business goals, budgets, creative requirements, and channel effectiveness. • Serve as the senior media strategist and trusted advisor for client accounts and internal agency teams. • Research client needs, market conditions, and competitive landscapes to identify and recommend advertising opportunities. • Translate business objectives into actionable media plans, performance KPIs, and measurement frameworks. • Identify and evaluate emerging media platforms, technologies, and opportunities to drive innovation and performance. • Stay current on the evolving media landscape and industry trends, fostering a culture of innovation within the media team. • Support agency business development efforts, including pitches, proposals, and strategic planning. • Media Planning & Buying • * Lead media planning and buying across digital, social, search, programmatic, broadcast, out-of-home, print, and emerging channels. • Ensure efficient budget allocation, strong negotiations, and optimal media value. • Oversee campaign launches, pacing, optimization, and performance reporting. • Establish best practices for audience targeting, testing, and attribution. • Client Leadership & Communication • * Work with the account team to present media plan recommendations to client teams. • Work with the account team to present media strategies, performance results, and recommendations to leadership and clients. • Collaborate with the account, creative, analytics, and research teams on media strategies, recommendations, performance, and execution. • Proactively identify opportunities for account growth and expanded media engagements. • Manage client expectations and ensure consistent, high-quality deliverables with the account team. • Team Management & Development • * Lead the establishment and growth of LMD’s media and digital department. • Lead, mentor, and develop media team members. • Set performance goals and conduct regular reviews. • Build a collaborative, learning-focused media team culture. • Support hiring, onboarding, and professional development initiatives. • Data, Analytics & Optimization • * Ensure campaigns are measured against clear performance benchmarks. • Collect proof-of-performance information for project and budget reconciliation. • Partner with account, analytics, and research teams to refine attribution and reporting methodologies. • Use data to inform future media planning and innovation. • Operational & Financial Oversight • * Work collaboratively with the account and finance teams to oversee media budgets, forecasts, and billing accuracy. • Manage media vendors, platforms, and agency partnerships. • Ensure compliance with agency processes and client requirements. • Contribute to agency profitability and operational efficiency. Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field • 8–12+ years of media planning and buying experience, preferably within an advertising agency. • Proven leadership experience managing media teams and large client budgets. • Deep knowledge of digital and traditional media channels. • Proven success in effective media planning, negotiation skills, and buying acumen. • Strong analytical, presentation, and communication skills. • Experience managing complex, multi-channel campaigns and stakeholders. • Experience working with national or multi-market clients. • Experience with media management tools. Preferred Skills And Experience • Strong knowledge of all existing media, including TV, radio, streaming services, digital, programmatic buying, social platforms, and emerging media options. • Proficiency in using advertising analytics tools, databases, and spreadsheet software to track, analyze, and manage media campaigns. • Strong negotiation skills, including value-added opportunities, cost efficiencies, and total media investment optimization. • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities. • Ability to evaluate, interpret, and act on performance metrics using a data-driven approach. • Proven experience using paid media to build brand awareness and support marketing objectives. • Demonstrated ability to work effectively under pressure and meet tight deadlines. • Exceptional multitasking and prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment. • Strong time management skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
