Full Description

Think of your favorite book from childhood. Got it? Great. Now, that warm, joyful feeling you have right now—that’s what we do. Literati is a modern children’s book company focused on helping kids fall in love with reading at every age and stage. We make it easy to find great books through our school book fairs, school store fundraising platform, and book clubs using a unique mix of expert curation and data science. We’re on a mission to help parents ignite a love of learning and a love of life. As a Business Intelligence (BI) / Data Engineer, you’ll be in the center where all data roads meet. By bringing in disparate source systems’ data and relating it, you’ll enable a comprehensive view of the business. You’ll consult with operational teams and data scientists and build SQL models and Sigma reports to inform high-value decisions. You will be a key player in bringing order to apparent chaos. If so inclined, you’ll also help in the effort to consolidate and standardize our machine learning (ML) pipelines and help manage our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) analytical resources. This position spans the breadth of business intelligence and data engineering – from requirements gathering to pulling source data to relating it in Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) models to building reports. To be equitable to all Literatians, we have set compensation and a non-negotiation policy- we don't think a person’s pay should be determined by how comfortable they negotiate. As a result, we like to be transparent and up-front about the compensation. When we make an offer, we can provide options so that employees can choose between compensation packages that prioritize salary or equity. The salary band for this role will be between $140,000 - $170,000. This position is classified as exempt and is not eligible for overtime pay. This Position is for Individual Applicants Only; No Third-Party Applications Will Be Considered REQUIREMENTS Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer/Software Engineering, Information Technology, and/or related field 3+ years of experience using data engineering, analytical, and business intelligence reporting tools to build ELT/ETL pipelines, SQL models in the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW), and reports/dashboards Passion for making a positive impact on children's education WE’D LOVE TO SEE Experience with Snowflake, Sigma Reporting, DBT, Airbyte/Fivetran, GCP, Jupyter notebooks, Python, and ML Interest in DevOps processes and a desire for maximizing efficiency and consistency Experience with inventory systems or retail back-end Initiative when asking probing questions, getting to the root of an issue, and developing an action plan Strong mind for storing, organizing, processing, and presenting data in the "best" way RESPONSIBILITIES Build DBT models using SQL/Jinja to collect, process, and present data Work with operational and data science teams to identify data and reporting needs Build Sigma reports and dashboards to coherently present data to the business Help the EDW grow & evolve while maintaining good data stewardship and organizational principles Help manage administrative tasks such as Snowflake user permissions & authentication methods, DBT Cloud job statuses, and the day-to-day Disclaimer: This job description is not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties, responsibilities, or qualifications associated with the job.
