IMMEDIATE INTERIM OPPORTUNITY Interim Senior Counsel – Legal Advisor Reports To: General Counsel Duration: 6 Months Location: Toronto, Ontario Hybrid – Financial District – 2-3 days per week (flexible) A mid-sized financial services client is seeking an Interim Senior Counsel to assist them through a very busy period. Demand for their products is growing quickly. They need to ensure they can maintain a high degree of responsiveness. This will be a very interesting engagement because it offers an opportunity to work on the complete lifecycle of a file, including post deal defaults. Key Accountabilities: • Support the lending team to ensure that all agreements protect the bank’s assets and fall within the regulatory guidelines – OSFI, Financial Consumer Protection Framework. • Provide guidance and mentoring to more junior staff. • Work with risk and compliance to ensure that all agreements meet bank standards. • Manage agreements through the default process, including litigation, where necessary. • Assist with corporate matters when needed. Competencies and Requirements: • Fully qualified (LLB/JD) to practice law in Canada. • 15+ years of practice experience. • Deep understanding and experience with residential mortgages. • Thorough understanding of the regulatory framework – OSFI, FCF, etc. • A collaborative, consultative approach. This role will appeal to someone who wants to work on the full lifecycle. The legal team is small, and they need someone who will roll up their sleeves.
