Full Description

Job Summary At Level Data, we build the data infrastructure that K-12 education runs on. For twenty years, our platforms have connected the disparate systems inside schools and state agencies - student information, educator credentials, special programs, instructional spend - into a single reliable picture that leaders can act on. Our software supports more than 1,800 districts and 20 state agencies across 48+ states, touching the educational experience of over 7 million students. Our fully remote team of engineers, data specialists, and former educators build products that reduce administrative burden and turn fragmented education data into evidence for smarter decisions. The Engineering organization delivers the systems state education agencies depend on to manage their educator workforce and oversee the districts they serve. We build at the state level, where a single deployment carries every educator record, every district submission, and every compliance deadline in the state - which means reliability, auditability, and the security of sensitive personnel and student data are engineering requirements, not afterthoughts. Our platforms are how states respond to educator shortages at scale, keep credentialing current as requirements shift, and maintain visibility into district performance. This role is on the Talent team, which delivers teacher licensure and credentialing, district and school accreditation, statewide teacher evaluation aligned to state frameworks, and talent transparency through our statewide educator job board. The team owns the workflows that move an educator from application to classroom, and the reporting that gives agencies confidence in the quality and completeness of what's underneath. The Software Engineer 2 will report to the Senior Software Engineering Manager. What You'll Do: * Serve as a main driver of story output for the team, spendingnearly allof your time hands-on delivering features that state agencies depend on. * Build and ship across a C#/.NET and SQL Server core, extending into React and Node (TypeScript) with Postgres on our newer products. * Work effectively across your team's entire codebase rather than a single corner of it, including established ASP.NET applications and the newer services alongside them. * Take initiative to resolve technical and product problems as they arise, without waiting to be prompted or assigned. * Helpmaintainthe team's broader environment and shared responsibilities - CI/CD pipelines, test frameworks, UAT and production environments, and production support rotation. * Develop a strong understanding of the team's goals and how your work advances them, including the compliance deadlines and state reporting cycles that shape our roadmap. * Write code that reviews cleanly and review your teammates' code with the same care, contributing to the quality bar the team holds. * Collaborate directly with your ProductOwner byasking questions about the customer problem behind the ticket and bringing what you learn back into the work. * Contribute to estimation and planning, voicing feedback and technical perspective so the team commits to work it can deliver on time and in scope. * Participate fully as a member of a self-managing Scrum team, sharing ownership of the team's commitments alongside your teammates Required Qualifications: * Minimum 3 years of professional software engineering experience. * Hands-on experience with C# and .NET, or equivalent backend development experience such as Java. * Strong computer science fundamentals - algorithms, data structures, and coding fluency. * Solid understanding of object-oriented analysis, design, and development. * Working relational database skills: writing complex queries and understanding schema design in SQL Server, Postgres, or comparable systems. * Workingproficiencyin JavaScript/TypeScript and a modern front-end framework. * Experience delivering at pace in an Agile team environment, including source control, CI/CD, and automated testing. * Generalist instincts and a willingness to work with whatever tool or language the job calls for. * A desire to collaborate, with genuine belief in communal ownership of the work and mutual support in doing it. * Clear written and verbal communication, and comfort asking questions early rather than staying blocked. * Familiarity with a major public cloud provider; we build in Azure, and AWS or Google Cloud experience translates well. Preferred Qualifications: * Comfort tackling problems outside your existing experience and seeing them through. * An instinct for noticingwhat'sbroken - in the code, the process, or the way the team works - and trying to fix it. * Interest in mentoring teammates and growing into a technical leadership role over time. * Familiarity with Entity Framework or comparable .NET patterns. * Experience applying AI/GenAI tooling to increase development and support efficiency.
