What You’ll Do You’ll be at the heart of ship design and acquisition, ensuring safety is built in from day one. In this role, you will: Define and validate system safety requirements across ship design, integration, and acquisition programs. Identify hazards and drive solutions to reduce risk—keeping sailors, ships, and missions safe. Conduct hands-on system safety reviews of designs, prototypes, and production systems. Perform hazard analyses to ensure risks are understood, mitigated, and documented. Collaborate in cross-functional safety working groups, providing technical expertise to ensure customer needs are met. Support shipboard ordnance integration and handling by reviewing engineering changes, assessing hazards, and preparing documentation for safety review boards. Contribute to cutting-edge research and studies, developing plans, testing systems, analyzing data, and reporting findings. Provide technical and administrative support including documentation, data compilation, and technical writing. What You Bring BS in Engineering, Naval Architecture, or related discipline 4+ years of marine engineering experience with naval or commercial ships Knowledge of ship design specifications and classification standards (ABS) Proficiency in AutoCAD (or similar design tools) and MS Office Suite Strong communication skills and experience supporting technical meetings U.S. Citizenship with an active or obtainable Secret Clearance Preferred Extras Experience with software development/engineering Background in US Navy, US Coast Guard, or DOD maritime systems Familiarity with DoD/DON acquisition processes Knowledge of system safety standards like MIL-STD-882E and techniques such as FMEA, FTA, or HAZOP Understanding of explosives safety requirements and environmental compliance (NEPA, E.O. 12114) Ability to meet NAVSEA System Safety Engineering Policy requirements within 24 months Why Join Us?
