Research Team Manager for the DNA Research Team **This job opening closes at 8:00am MT on Friday, March 6, 2026. A one week management training period is expected to start on Monday, March 16, 2026 with transition to full management (with support!) happening on March 23, 2026.** Legacy Tree Research Team Managers love supporting our Researchers. We strive to lead by example, assign work that fits the needs of each individual researcher, and train, coach, and mentor our researchers to help them grow and develop professionally. We also support Legacy Tree by contributing to the development of company policy. We advocate for the needs and perspectives of the researchers and implement company policy and processes when decisions are made. Our DNA Research Team will need continued support to keep providing the highest-rated genealogy research in the world to our clients. This is where you come in! About You You will be a great fit if: You are passionate about people and have a strong desire to learn and grow in the area of people management You are emotionally intelligent, flexible, and resilient You have strong leadership skills as well as excellent communication and people skills You are solution-oriented when it comes to problems and can tackle them in creative ways You are highly organized and experienced at managing multiple tasks and responsibilities at the same time You have experience with using DNA test results to conduct genetic genealogy research to solve both unknown parentage cases and historic genealogy cases You are familiar with the unique resources, methodologies, and nuances of genetic genealogy research You have at least three years of professional genealogical research experience Even better if: In addition to the above, you have experience in people management or leadership What you’ll be doing at Legacy Tree: You'll supervise a team of Researchers whose main specialty is genetic genealogy research. This includes overseeing their productivity and workload, ensuring their working needs are met, and providing support and encouragement along the way. Knowing your researchers' strengths and capabilities, you'll evaluate and advise on raises and promotions for each of your team members. You'll manage the DNA Dispatch queue by conducting Initial Reviews on new projects and assigning research projects to team members. This entails having an intimate knowledge of each team members' strengths and research preferences. You'll also oversee and facilitate collaborations between your team members and members of other teams. Open communication is key. You'll watch capacity metrics to identify when to add more members to your team and will be involved in the hiring process from interviewing to training new team members. You'll work with Quality Assurance to develop and implement training plans when team members need to strengthen their research and writing skills. This could include casual Conversation Corners and formal Performance Improvement Plans. You'll conduct team meetings and team-member 1:1s including annual and quarterly reviews. You'll also organize and oversee team trainings. You'll participate in department, manager, and cross-departmental meetings, contributing to drafting policy and process decisions, especially as they relate to DNA research. You'll also play an integral role in implementing company policy and process decisions. In addition to your management duties, you'll continue to perform Billable work for clients, maintaining a specific percentage of Billable hours. This will allow you to better relate to your team members and help them solve project-related problems when they ask you for help. It will also allow you to advise the directors on research-related improvements and initiatives. With your input, you'll do other things as opportunities and needs arise. What Working at Legacy Tree as a Manager Will be Like This position is 100% remote with the exception of required attendance at company and leadership retreats (and most likely you'll be in charge of at least part of the retreats, too). Like all roles at Legacy Tree, managers can set their own work hours but do need to be available during regular business hours to answer questions from team members and others throughout the company. Managers typically work full-time (40 hours per week) to balance billable time with management duties. However, part-time work or a long transition period to reach full-time are both potential options. Full-time benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401k matching, PTO and paid holidays at full-time accrual rates, and more. Managers participate in the team QIP bonus program and receive a bonus if their team meets the Billable goals.
