Job Description: Growing Food Manufacturer is hiring for a Remote Director Operations Finance leader! The Director of Operations Finance reports directly to the COO and VP of Finance. This role is the key finance partner to Operations, procurement and production, enabling financial visibility across a fast-scaling business. Sitting at the intersection between our operations and accounting functions, the person in this role will own the P&L and margins. This is a new role in our company and there's a lot to accomplish as the company moves into another year of high growth. Your work will be critical to expanding the organization. To start, you'll leverage the people, processes, and systems that are in place. Simultaneously, you'll dig into big picture goals for how to scale our operations sustainably. And this is how you'll do it... 1. P&L Ownership & Margin Management (30%) Own the operational P&L and drive profitability across the supply chain • Own and monitor the Operations P&L, ensuring accurate tracking of all cost drivers • Maintain deep knowledge of unit economics across all SKUs, channels, and product lines • Drive cost control and operational efficiency to reach profit margin goals • Monitor and analyze purchase price variances (PPV), investigating root causes and implementing corrective actions • Drive margin improvement initiatives across procurement, production, and supply chain • Manage cost increases from suppliers/co-packers, evaluating pass-through vs. absorption strategies • Lead ingredient costing analysis to support pricing decisions and new product development • Report on trends, cost drivers, and margin performance to COO and executive leadership • Partner with VP Finance on operational budget development, quarterly forecasts, and variance analysis 2. Strategic Planning & Growth Initiatives (25%) Lead strategic planning for operations • Work with leadership to develop and execute the strategic plan for transitioning from suppliers to owned manufacturing to reduce costs and improve consistency • Model financial impact of manufacturing investments, build vs. buy analyses, and facility location decisions • Plan operational capacity and capabilities to support aggressive growth targets • Evaluate and recommend supply chain optimization opportunities (network design, warehousing strategy, sourcing) • Drive supply chain savings activities across procurement, production, logistics, and inventory management • Conduct scenario planning for growth initiatives (new channels, new SKUs, geographic expansion) 3. Team Leadership & Development (20%) Lead a 6-person operations finance team across inventory systems, supply planning, and supply chain management • Manage and develop 3 direct reports: • Inventory Systems Accountant (+ 1 indirect report): Cin7, accounting integration, inventory accuracy, COGS, controls • Senior Supply Planner (+ 1 indirect report): Purchasing, production preparation, production scheduling, production completion • Manager, Supply Chain (+ 1 indirect report): Demand planning, copacker relationships, process improvement, procurement • Ensure team has the tools, training, and support needed to execute in fast-paced, high-growth environment 4. Financial Systems, Controls & Reporting (15%) Create scalable systems that ensure operational accuracy translates to financial reporting integrity • Build and monitor KPIs that connect operational performance to financial outcomes (inventory turns, yield, shrinkage, cost per unit) • Design controls and processes that scale with growth and prevent operational errors from becoming financial errors • Partner with VP Finance on strategic financial planning, cash flow management, and working capital optimization 5. Cross-Functional Partnership & Vendor Management (10%) Serve as the finance partner to operations and manage critical external relationships • Collaborate with Senior Logistics & Fulfillment Manager on fulfillment costs, 3PL relationships, and order-to-cash efficiency • Work with Director of Quality on production handoffs, quality cost implications, and yield improvements • Own copacker and supplier relationships from a strategic and financial perspective • Support vendor negotiations, contract reviews, and pricing discussions for copackers and key suppliers • Evaluate and recommend 3PL, copacker, and supplier changes based on cost, quality, and strategic fit • Serve as operations finance voice to leadership, providing data-driven insights and recommendations • Interface with leadership on major strategic and financial decisions requiring operational input Experience and Skills: • CPG Industry experience • BA/BS in Finance or Accounting • 7+ years of experience in Finance Operations • People leadership experience Compensation range is $170k - $180k base plus benefits!
